What would your advice be for a Bassgasm album?harmless wrote:I think that to base anything on drums by themselves, you first have to establish a groove that people can get behind. You can stampede like wildebeest and go crazy if you want, but not for the first two minutes of the track or people will just be put off right away.

I don't play bass so I wouldn't have any to give.EJ wrote:What would your advice be for a Bassgasm album?harmless wrote:I think that to base anything on drums by themselves, you first have to establish a groove that people can get behind. I read this as the type of fish-gasm not the type of instrument-gasm.EJ wrote:What would your advice be for a Bassgasm album?harmless wrote:I think that to base anything on drums by themselves, you first have to establish a groove that people can get behind. I'm not a Keith Moon fan really. I much prefer John Bonham.McParadigm wrote:Squint though he might, Keith Moon never managed to read this post.harmless wrote:You can stampede like wildebeest and go crazy if you want, but not for the first two minutes of the track

The day my wife excitedly told me that she'd ordered a contraption known as the "ball winder" was the day I learned to stop assuming, my man.

Re: Lightning Bolt - October 15
Someone asked earlier if I was excited about S/T or Backspacer leading up to their release (unlike "Lightning Bolt" which the music of so far does nothing for me). The answer is yes (BS less so but I ended up liking it a lot anyway).
I liked WWS a lot but after hearing "Severed Hand" on SNL I was really jazzed for the Avocado.
Oh and I don't agree the band wasn't fighting on Yield. They were fighting. They were fighting against fighting...

Girls Against Boys "Cruise Yourself" and Ned's Atomic Dustbin "God Fodder" are great albums from rare bands that used 2 bass players and only 1 guitar player.EJ wrote:What would your advice be for a Bassgasm album?
Or you could just go with anything Les Claypool has done... especially Primus "Sailing the Seas of Cheese"
As a bass player myself, those 3 albums are bassalicious

The issue could be the mix rather then the tone itself.harmless wrote:I'm a little frustrated that Matt's snare always sounds very nice on his drumming promo vids, but not in the actual PJ songs.

Peter Hook, Andy Rourke, and Mani had their whole "Freebass" thing some years ago, where they tried to have a three bassist band.bluestate wrote:Girls Against Boys "Cruise Yourself" and Ned's Atomic Dustbin "God Fodder" are great albums from rare bands that used 2 bass players and only 1 guitar player.EJ wrote:What would your advice be for a Bassgasm album?

I doubt many, if any of their marketing strategies are aimed at us. They know how rabid their hardcore fanbase is and that we'll probably buy it first week no matter what.Release_Me wrote:That fact that so many of us here are debating the countdown clock and when we will get some info about the album, etc. etc. says to me that their marketing strategy pretty much worked.
I haven't really seen any talk of this album outside of here, but that's not particularly surprising. It's still a ways off, and PJ albums aren't really these big releases anymore.

Love that MC MYM video. I guess I never realized he tuned his snare that high.
I might be able to get to an E-bow.
