I've never much cared for his two major label records (XO and Figure 8).

New Moon has some great stuff on it, I really like this one in particular:

The paranoia on that one is perhaps at an all-time high as far as Elliott Smith songs go.

Second song, Independence Day with Elliott on vocals plus Jon Brion and Brad Mehldau on organ. Crazy. :heartbeat:

I love this guy so much. In my opinion he is one of the most underrated songwriters ever. What I love about his music is the combination of sweet almost simple vocal melodies on the surface and the sometimes weird and never 08/15 harmonies lying underneath.

This is really painful to watch. Although he is so wasted I love this version to death.

Tony Lash posted Heatmisers version of Christian Brothers. I wonder how many other Heatmiser versions of Elliott solo songs exist.

Ten years today since Elliott's unfortunate demise. :(

A sad story.
Thanks zeb - this was quite affecting (albeit a total formatting nightmare to read via iPhone).

It looks great on a desktop but I can imagine on-the-fly mobile reformatting would fuck with it big time.

I remember the day it happened, then the autopsy report being leaked some months later. I haven't really listened to him since. Feeling depressed as fuck isn't really something I actively seek out.

The Jeff Buckley thread made me think of Elliott. Anyone listened to him lately? Doc and I listened to some of XO and From a Basement a couple weeks ago.
I hate to say I love you,
But oh goddamn I love you,
You know I do.

Yes...actually. A couple of weeks ago I was listening to quite a bit of him. I downloaded higher quality versions of his records. I'm hoping to get him to being an artist whose work I know, instead of know of.

It's a shame he didn't get the opportunity to finish From a Basement. There are some really great songs on that album, would have been nice to hear them finished from his perspective.

The more ornate stuff for sure...XO is my favorite thus far, and I'm a fan of him taking full advantage of the studio as opposed to the earlier sparser stuff.

I just listened to Angeles on repeat for a good 30 minutes. Can't get enough of this one.
Roman Candle is a gem, too. Loving it today!
