I think that to base anything on drums by themselves, you first have to establish a groove that people can get behind. You can stampede like wildebeest and go crazy if you want, but not for the first two minutes of the track or people will just be put off right away.

Someone asked earlier if I was excited about S/T or Backspacer leading up to their release (unlike "Lightning Bolt" which the music of so far does nothing for me). The answer is yes (BS less so but I ended up liking it a lot anyway).

I liked WWS a lot but after hearing "Severed Hand" on SNL I was really jazzed for the Avocado.

Oh and I don't agree the band wasn't fighting on Yield. They were fighting. They were fighting against fighting...

And on Backspacer they were 'fighting to get it back again'. It's not that they're not fighting, it's just that you think some opponents are more interesting to watch than others. Maybe on Backspacer they were fighting against darkness, and certain hardcore fans who were going to accuse them of selling out.

Girls Against Boys "Cruise Yourself" and Ned's Atomic Dustbin "God Fodder" are great albums from rare bands that used 2 bass players and only 1 guitar player.

Or you could just go with anything Les Claypool has done... especially Primus "Sailing the Seas of Cheese"

As a bass player myself, those 3 albums are bassalicious

I'm a little frustrated that Matt's snare always sounds very nice on his drumming promo vids, but not in the actual PJ songs.

The issue could be the mix rather then the tone itself.

That fact that so many of us here are debating the countdown clock and when we will get some info about the album, etc. etc. says to me that their marketing strategy pretty much worked.

I doubt many, if any of their marketing strategies are aimed at us. They know how rabid their hardcore fanbase is and that we'll probably buy it first week no matter what.

I haven't really seen any talk of this album outside of here, but that's not particularly surprising. It's still a ways off, and PJ albums aren't really these big releases anymore.
