I don’t know how reliable slashfilm are but I have seen this guys name a lot. How he knows anything like this I don’t know but the art of TFA book is amazing anyways. Especially the Early blue sky stuff based on George’s concepts for the ST when he was working with Michael Arndt pre the sale to Disney so I’ll have a look through it again

Some cool artwork there. Personally I would have liked JJ to have had a full three film concept/story.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX (2019)
So far all that might be something is a three sketched concepts luke where he is luke, luke all white and gaunt and sick looking and by the third he’s a ghost of phantom that looks Snoke-ish,
A painting of Vader’s castle-this could be something. Kylo using it as a HQ in IX perhaps? Makes sense he could pick that now he’s supreme leader.
Concept art of Anakin returning (to talk to luke it seems)(later concept art of evil Anakin / Vader, that famous one)
Rey in an x wing cockpit open, holding a lightsaber cutting tons of slashes on the underside of a star destroyer
Rey and the falcon searching underwater/ searching the crash landed Death Star II and searching the emperors throne room
There’s probably tons more. JJ was involved at most of these stages so it’s not a reach to think they’he mined this stuff for ideas. Heck we know they never throw ideas away and they often turn back up.
There’s paintings in this of giant Jedi statues that have been torn down defaced and destroyed and that showed up in R1. And here it is in earlier work for TFA.
Thinking the guy might be onto something. God knows what it is though.

Vader’s castle sounds like a clear possibility.

I've actually gotten to the point where I might be bummed out if they don't include it. Which is shitty. I don't like that. It's why I'm avoiding all spoilers and a good amount of speculation leading up to this. I just want to enjoy it for what it is rather than wrestle too much with what I hope or want it to be.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX (2019)
Anakin returning as a split spirit or to show kylo what he actually became and what a really bad idea to follow through and go full bad could be something too.
I’d be happy with that or Vader’s castle.
Why not both at once. He has taken it as HQ and Anakin appears to him there
Why else do that comic run?

Given what just happened in the Vader comic re: his castle and what’s there and what you can do with it, these two items are not outside the bounds of possibility. At all.dimejinky99 wrote:A painting of Vader’s castle-this could be something. Kylo using it as a HQ in IX perhaps? Makes sense he could pick that now he’s supreme leader.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX (2019)
THE only thing holding me back from that was I think it was Ken napzok on force Center saying he knows someone in the production and JJ never really checked in with the story group too much at all, hence things like Domhnall Gleeson not knowing Hux’s first name was Armitage for example. The story group were building extra curricular new canon around TFA and related to the script but JJ wasn’t checking in on their work as they were with the script and art depts work both at Lucasfilm and on set.
I hope that changes for IX. If him including things from all three trilogies is actually true, he’d have to be. But the whole thing about developing Vader’s castle into a thing in the comics, and it having turned up in concept art for TFA, physically in rogue one, along with concept art for Anakin/Vader turning up?
Too much there for it to be nothing but not getting hopes up too much. Despite wanting Anakin in this more than Luke Obi wan or anyone else

Abrams may not be checking in with what the story group is doing, but that doesn’t mean they’re not privy to what he’s doing and could’ve built their story around that.dimejinky99 wrote:THE only thing holding me back from that was I think it was Ken napzok on force Center saying he knows someone in the production and JJ never really checked in with the story group too much at all, hence things like Domhnall Gleeson not knowing Hux’s first name was Armitage for example. Interesting thing here. They do have access to the script and are privy to all art etc. Rian was invited to join the ‘intellectual property development group’. A name I didn’t know. It’s the story group. But it’s ‘informal’.
There’s no mention anywhere of JJ going up there and staying there extensively as Rian did, he just did two or three visits and some teleconferencing.
None of that matters but I hope he engages a lot lot more with them for IX

Just look around a bit for a few things in that FW artbook, gosh thats amazing. There is a great incredible movie there! Lots of cool ideas.
I bet JJ goes back to his idea of Anakin coming back as a force ghost. He has to right? And im betting Luke is not dead.
Please give me a teaser now!!!

Right?
The concept work in there shows the bones for sort of endless ways they could have gone with it but also like ten other SW movies I’d *love* to see. Sooo much awesome in there.
I’d say Anakin force ghost / Vader’s castle are the two most obvious of that guys tweet is for real. Luke returning I don’t see happening outside of force ghost.

*despite wanting see Anakin return more than anything it would raise the question why hasn’t he come to kylo before?
Workaround. Snoke was blocking that and sort of controlling Kylo and his abilities within the force as we already kinda saw. So now he’s outta the way you could have Anakin come to him for real rather than The fake visions of Vader Snoke seemed to be planting in his head.

JJ seemed to hint about a Anakin being a good and bad force ghost. Kylo says something about talking to Anakin when he is with his ashes in TFA. So, its clear that it happened.
Im thinking Luke coming back as more than just a force ghost. JJ wanted to use him a lot in those first art concepts. If Luke is so powerful it could have become a different thing than just a force ghost.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX (2019)
Well we’ve seen new force powers for sure but from a filmmaking storytelling perspective it would undo the whole point of him in TLJ. Don’t think they’d do that. Plus he kinda is more useful potentially as a force ghost. Watching kylo constantly. Haunting him effectively. Kylo would know that n itd drive him crazy.
Plus it’s not Luke’s story anymore remember. It’s about Rey and kylo. Setting ourselves up for disappointment if we think luke will somehow manisfest physically and it doesn’t happen no?

The whole “it would undo tlj” thing..I don’t care really. I’m sure jj will undo a lot of things and it’s fine. It’s a trilogy and It happen in the past.
I can take a disappointment, so I will stand by what I desire.

Why do we need to have a first name for Hux?

Technically we don't but the actor might as it would help them envision who the character is. At least that's one reason.blueviper wrote:dimejinky99 wrote:THE only thing holding me back from that was I think it was Ken napzok on force Center saying he knows someone in the production and JJ never really checked in with the story group too much at all, hence things like Domhnall Gleeson not knowing Hux’s first name was Armitage for example.
