Re: Lightning Bolt - October 15
That's what I initially thought, but then again, I wonder if with the bass and guitars in the mix it can sound lower than it really is, or if they ever use any pitch-shifting with it on albums. Or maybe its just a different snare/set all together in that video. Nevertheless, very cool to hear him just by himself and how his drums sound.harmless wrote:He doesn't on the studio version, by the sounds of it. I might be able to get to an E-bow.

IMVHO.
While a Western guitar motif lost on the swings drum bass fusion, get your own thoughts into the subconscious often forgotten. "Pendulum" is a sweeping soul from the ballast.

Fighting against people calling you a sell-out by signing an exclusive album distribution deal with the Target Corporation? Interesting.harmless wrote:darthvedder81 wrote:Someone asked earlier if I was excited about S/T or Backspacer leading up to their release (unlike "Lightning Bolt" which the music of so far does nothing for me). I liked WWS a lot but after hearing "Severed Hand" on SNL I was really jazzed for the Avocado.
Oh and I don't agree the band wasn't fighting on Yield. They were fighting. They were fighting against fighting...And on Backspacer they were 'fighting to get it back again'. It's not that they're not fighting, it's just that you think some opponents are more interesting to watch than others. Maybe on Backspacer they were fighting against darkness, and certain hardcore fans who were going to accuse them of selling out.
I'm not a Backspacer hater so I'm not sure what you're driving at. I like that album a lot. As a one-off/upbeat/poppy sounding record I'm OK with it. As a permanent new direction for the band I'm not OK with it. The big question for me is if LB is more of the same or not. No Code is great because it's the only PJ album that sounds like No Code. Sgt. Pepper's is great because it's the only Beatles album that sounds like Sgt. Pepper's. If every album after No Code sounded like No Code I would have quit PJ in 2002.

Agree with all of this (except for maybe the last sentence; I can't promise I wouldn't be here after 9 No Codes).darthvedder81 wrote:Fighting against people calling you a sell-out by signing an exclusive album distribution deal with the Target Corporation? It'd be brilliant. I never knew how much i want this this album till now.
Stone should have sang on backspacer, it would have given everything an air of sarcasm.
