Movies that are ruined by their sequels

Post by BurtReynolds »

Aliens (turns out nothing Ripley did mattered)

The original Star Wars Trilogy (turns out everyone dies a miserable failure)

Matrix (turns out this movie franchise sucks)

Don't come at me with that "acctually movies can't be ruined by sequels" nonsense. This isn't the time or place for that. Nobody wants to hear your bullshit

So yeah sequels can’t ruin originals and all that, but I would say the thematic meaning of these movies was significantly negated/rewritten by their sequels/prequels (if you choose to care about that - the whole concept of “canon” is stupid):

Planet of the Apes
Star Wars OT
Fifty Shades of Grey & Fifty Shades Darker

Yeah Star Wars is really ruined by empire strikes back.

Prequels are more damaging imo. LOTR - hobbit for example. Also Raiders - temple of doom

i will die on this hill

rocky's sequels

while II was good i havent watched any of the others with any enthusiasm. if they never made another rocky id consider it one of the best. guy fights his way to the top only to lose. very valuable lesson that no matter what you try to overcome sometimes someone is just better or luckier

That’s the one.
One of the Collider shows watched all five films and did a podcast on it and were like, you’ll never believe this but the fifth one is probably the best one.

‘Did you know there are five HOME ALONE movies? It’s true, and because we’re completely out of our minds we watched them all for this week’s CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED! We’re diving deep into this troubling family movie franchise to explain why the original films might never have been great, why the fifth film is arguably the best in the series, and why the third and fourth films might make you want to gouge out your eyes.’

Or maybe it was the fourth one? I don't know it had French Stuart and it was awful.

I’ve only seen the first two.

And the second, lost in New York is far superior to the original.
