It's...nice. But not like "Tune in for an announcement" exciting.

There are some Ragged Glory outtakes circulating on bootlegs -- nothing terribly earth-shattering, if memory serves, though the B-side "Don't Spook the Horse"' is a noisy good time and deserving of a more widespread release.
Hopefully the newly unearthed stuff gets a standalone release.

from an outside perspective (not nearly as engulfed in NY fandom as most of you), this sounds pretty sweet. but in the canon of NY releases, i don't know where "ragged glory" stands. out of curiosity, why is this news not as exciting?

A New Young Archives announcement sounded like maybe it was Archives Vol. II, which we've been waiting 9 1/2 years for. Getting unreleased music like this is good news, but it's not on the same level as the archive.bodysnatcher wrote:from an outside perspective (not nearly as engulfed in NY fandom as most of you), this sounds pretty sweet. but in the canon of NY releases, i don't know where "ragged glory" stands. out of curiosity, why is this news not as exciting?
Just booted up the site again, and it appears that today's actual announcement was that the Neil Young Archives iOS app has been released.

Re: The Official Neil Young Thread
are releases like this new Ragged Glory a bad thing for Archives Vol 2 (or 3)? seems like a release like this is eating into the unreleased tracks that normally would come as a nice surprise and selling point of such a big box set. in the end, will Archives Vol 2 just be a collection of these individually released efforts?Simple Torture wrote:A New Young Archives announcement sounded like maybe it was Archives Vol. II, which we've been waiting 9 1/2 years for. (this coming from someone who doesn't have or never listened to Archives Vol 1, so i have no idea what i'm really talking about)

Yeah I think releases like this and hitchhiker reduce the likelihood of big archive boxsets.

There are 2 references to a May 2019 release for Archives 2 in the "Letters to the Editor" section of NYA. We'll see what that brings.iweartwoshoes wrote:Yeah I think releases like this and hitchhiker reduce the likelihood of big archive boxsets.

At this rate, Archives Vol. 4 (which would presumably cover the 1990s) will be out in 2039.bodysnatcher wrote:Come on, old man, just give us Mirrorball ffs

Re: The Official Neil Young Thread
Honestly I much prefer the smaller, more manageable releases to big expensive box sets substantially comprised of previously released material. Neil has kept up an awesome schedule with these archive releases, the selections have all been great, and the duplication of previously released material has been minimal. If one comes at the expense of the other, I prefer the current format.iweartwoshoes wrote:Yeah I think releases like this and hitchhiker reduce the likelihood of big archive boxsets.

Also what I get from that is that they could release a lot of tracks from the concerts instead of all these bootlegs and shit.Strat wrote:Pegi young dead from cancer
