REY: They were nobody.
KYLO REN: They were filthy junk traders who sold you off for drinking money. They’re dead, in a paupers’ grave in the Jakku desert.
That makes perfect sense though

If this is the story they are going with even after IX, and there is no further explanation or story about it, it will be really weak.dimejinky99 wrote:Anders wrote:KYLO REN: You know the truth. Say it.

why does it need more story? what is missing from it that would inform rey’s character?

Just to confirm that I’m with you Anders and would like something even a small explanation but I don’t know if it’ll go there at all on screen. Possibly in the novelisation and have it expanded as TLJ’s was.

Even a comic book about her childhood would help. It wouldn't be in the movie, but at least it would be a flashed out story, not just some random stuff.dimejinky99 wrote:Just to confirm that I’m with you Anders and would like something even a small explanation but I don’t know if it’ll go there at all on screen. It feels incomplete. I want to know more about her. Where were her parents born? Why did they choose to leave her, or sell her? What happened after they left her? Who did she grow up with and learn from?stip wrote:why does it need more story? what is missing from it that would inform rey’s character?

Well they could tie it into her being hidden by _________(luke/Snoke/one of palpatines children he was experimenting on/whatever) or simply have one of her parents come back (Kerri Russell?) and find her..heard she was making a new academy, knew it had to be her daughter and comes to get her. Teary scene where she explains to Rey she had to hide her away for her own good, she was in danger blah blah blah.
One scene written carefully could wrap all that up and not upset those among us who are ok with how it is currently and satisfy those who would like an answer.
Let’s be honest. Rey herself probably would want an answer.

Absolutely. It’s weird if she just accepts it and moves on without further thought.dimejinky99 wrote:Well they could tie it into her being hidden by _________(luke/Snoke/one of palpatines children he was experimenting on/whatever) or simply have one of her parents come back (Kerri Russell?) and find her..heard she was making a new academy, knew it had to be her daughter and comes to get her. JJ was building something with Rey´s parents....and Rian did his thing. He might undo that.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII: The Last Jedi
The part that rankles me about kylo saying that to her In that scene is he’s trying to emotionally manipulate her. And it *looks* like she’s admitting it and they were nobody, but we know she’s a lot stronger than that and we don’t know she’s just telling him what he wants to hear in order to put him into thinking he has her where he wants her.
This is backed up by her grabbing the lightsaber seconds later and they’d have that force standoff.
This is probably bull but I never really bought that she was admitting they were nobody’s.
He just found her deepest fear (they were nobody. They’re dead.) and using it against her.
It doesn’t mean it’s true or that’s what happened.
I’d be happy either way but I can’t see JJ not adressing this in some form.

It’s a beautiful yin to I am your father / middle act parent drama yang.
I think Rian knew what he was doing here and had jj’s blessing. Remember JJ was executive producer on this. Now he gets to either ignore it or develop it in some way.

No matter where you stand on the matter, the ghost of Luke Skywalker is going to haunt Rian Johnson for the rest of his life.

An all star cast too. I hope that film is brilliant and makes mountains of money.
I have a sneaking suspicion Disney are watching to see how it does before endorsing and going forward with Rians trilogy.
It was book of Henry’s across the board slating that in part brought about Treverows dismissal from episode IX.
