Heard it last night driving back from the casino at 2 am.
It still sounds great on the radio.

Re: Mind Your Manners
Did a quick search and MYM is currently #7 on something called the "Rock Airplay" charts on Billboard. The peak was #6.
For context, their competition on said chart is: Imagine Dragons, Capital Cities, Lorde, The Neighborhood, Fitz & the Tantrums, Of Monsters and Men.
My how the "rock" landscape has changed.

Re: Mind Your Manners
Rock airplay is just audience size. MYM has the seventh largest potential audience among charting rock songs.
This is part of why I focus on inner-industry sources rather than Billboard...big B divides information in misleading ways.

Heard it 3 times over the past 3 days. Noon, around 6 and at 2 am. Pretty good based on how little The past few singles were played around here.

It will depend on what kind of tail it carries. Right now it has fewer than half the spins WWS managed in its chart life and has never approached the kind of audience size it, Fixer, or JB achieved. To be losing spins and audience on 3 out of 4 formats already may be a bad sign, unless it can hold the kind of slow-decline jog Fixer and JB had. Both those singles had much stronger peaks.
Already better than Life Wasted or Amongst, this is still on course to be the lowest performing lead single since I Am Mine. And while it has been mentioned that that's just one metric of determining success, radio remains a surprisingly effective barometer for predicting downloads, media attention, and streaming media reception.

Re: Mind Your Manners
MYM certainly doesn't seem to have the staying power of Fixer and JB in the culture. I know that's nebulous, but you can usually get a feel for how a song is doing based on a variety of metrics, anecdotal and otherwise.McParadigm wrote:It will depend on what kind of tail it carries. Then again, it really isn't that type of song anyway. I think that's purposeful - they wanted to come out with something a little more shocking and less poppy than the last time around. A palate cleanser of sorts.

When FNX went the way of the dodo after BCN I kind of gave up on rock radio. I've kind of turned into an NPR junkie.numbers wrote:Yeah, me too. Re: Mind Your Manners
It's basically mediocre news. But as I said, MYM is more of a statement than it is a single. If they wanted to put something out that has staying power at radio, they would have released Sirens (the way everyone talks about it). Which, of course, they still might do.harmless wrote:I'm reading this as all good news, amirite?McParadigm wrote:It will depend on what kind of tail it carries. Re: Mind Your Manners
How it looks will be determined by what happens next.
If the album has other radio friendly, strongly written moments, then it'll look like they put out a Go-type opening single to give us something to listen to while we wait and to let the world know that, when Daughter shows up as the second single, it won't be because the album doesn't rawk hard yo.
There really is no sense in putting out your strongest single 3 months before the record drops, and it can help a band like them (that does not have a reputation for consistency) to put out something with balls early on in the promotion.
If the next single, or the album entire, is just sort of meh...then it'll just mean they shot their wad on what was supposed to be a dry run.
