It’s OK to be mad, but he was telling us in practically every song he wrote over 30 years that he was troubled and that life wasn’t easy for him and that he thought a lot about dying.
I'm trying real hard to be the shepherd.

It is kind of amazing he lasted as long as he did....meatwad wrote:It’s OK to be mad, but he was telling us in practically every song he wrote over 30 years that he was troubled and that life wasn’t easy for him and that he thought a lot about dying.

ok RM, I've:
– Never seen the 2000 Grinch movie
– Never seen Gossip Girl
– Never heard that song before
I feel comfortable confirming that I've never known (consciously or unconsciously) who Taylor Momsen is.
Can anyone type out the lyrics here that are a “lawsuit waiting to happen”? I won’t be watching this video myself. K thnx.

Except for Miley, this is how I felt about all the performances by the original-lineups-plus-guest-singers, where the fact that everything about the arrangement is exactly the same except for the voice really only highlights how out of place the voice is. I certainly think there is an emotional power to the gesture that, in the moment, takes precedence over the music, but I probably wouldn't listen to these performances in any other context.Rangi Guy wrote: they're pale, shallow copies
I'm still picking through the other performances but my general feeling is that, musically, things hang together a bit better when the original musicians aren't onstage.

What were your thoughts on the similar Nirvana HoF tribute set?Kevin Davis wrote:Except for Miley, this is how I felt about all the performances by the original-lineups-plus-guest-singers, where the fact that everything about the arrangement is exactly the same except for the voice really only highlights how out of place the voice is. Pretty much exactly the same as this, so much so that I had originally included a reference to it in my post but ended up editing it out. I thought the occasion was special, but I thought the vocal performances ranged from unremarkable (St. Vincent) to downright bad (Lorde).Bi_3 wrote:What were your thoughts on the similar Nirvana HoF tribute set?Kevin Davis wrote:Except for Miley, this is how I felt about all the performances by the original-lineups-plus-guest-singers, where the fact that everything about the arrangement is exactly the same except for the voice really only highlights how out of place the voice is. it's not an imitation contest but just a tribute to the guys music. i don't think any of the singers had the intention to sound as good as Cornell himself, because they know that isn't going to happen. i think overall they all sounded good and did a nice job honoring the guy. with the exception of Juliette Lewis. yikes.

Ben is easily the second most insane member of Soundgarden after the deceased Chris Cornell.

No arguments with any of that. I'm not down on the event; I think it's awe-inspiring any time that many people turn out to honor someone's work like that. Divorced from that context, though, the performances aren't particularly satisfying to me. "Surviving members with new lead singer" is kind of a DOA format.kreng wrote:it's not an imitation contest but just a tribute to the guys music. i don't think any of the singers had the intention to sound as good as Cornell himself, because they know that isn't going to happen. i think overall they all sounded good and did a nice job honoring the guy. with the exception of Juliette Lewis. yikes.

I’ll give you that but I do still love me some Alice In Chains (even if I won’t go out of my way to see them live anymore)Kevin Davis wrote:No arguments with any of that.
