It’s clearly emulating the style of ‘90s Trek, especially in the editing and music. Braga being involved shows.
MacFarlane has been wanting to do this for a long time.

Anyway, I think we can all agree that it is better than Discovery.

I didn’t even make it through the first episode of Discovery. Just awful.

I actually thought the back half of the season got better. They gotta lose the main character, tho. She’s terrible

I hate the characters from different dimensions/time travel stuff. Happy it’s not in Orville.

I don’t know about that. While it has the feel of ST, I think thematically and emotionally it’s very different from ST. It’s not the utopian vision ST is. And that’s cool. Different is good. But I wouldn’t want this from ST.

Last night's episode (1/17) was pretty good. I like the "what ifs" this show poses.

Plus props for using Billy Joel, twice!

Still working through this and it’s only getting better. Got a few episodes left to go in the first season.

The commentary in “Majority Rule” was very, very, very on the nose, of course, but I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t effectively nightmarish and stressful. Jesus.

They should have just killed the kids in “Krill”.

“Cupid’s Dagger” was a great spin on “The Naked Time/Now”. Rob Lowe got off too easily, though. Dude is basically a rapist.

I think the comedy actually goes a long way toward making this feel like Trek. It made me realize how badly I missed the light playfulness of previous series when I tried watching Discovery. It feels too dark and serious.

I must admit, I have really come to enjoy this show as well.

Between this and Cosmos, Seth MacFarlane has almost made up for all of his terrible cartoons and movies.

With his love of Star Trek, you can tell he's taking The Orville seriously.

Not at all. It’s very reminiscent of TNG. Yes, it has humor in it here and there, but it’s done well and not at the expense of story or character
