Re: MLB
It's a nice accomplishment, but saying that it puts him with Cobb and Rose is ridiculous.@SkitchP wrote:MadTIGERmaN wrote:MLB network just showed the combined Major/Minor league hit total...
only 5 people reach 4,000 hits
Rose, Cobb, Aaron, Musial (4001) and now Ichiro...
so those of you who didnt wanna count the hits together, and saying "if were going to include Japan hits than lets include minors" go ahead, its still only 5 guys to reach 4,000 professionally
also they just put up that he has the most hits in a 13 year hit span
He's an amazing hitter. I dont see anyone debating that. But this "4,000 hits" thing just seems silly.

Re: MLB
I think getting Peavy for just Iglesias was a good trade. I'm not under any delusions about what Peavy is now, but I still think he is a good starting pitcher(and has been thus far for the Sox.) They sold high on Iglesias, and with Bogaerts(still dont know if I'm spelling that right) and a couple other guys in the system at SS, he was expendible. He is the best fielder I've ever seen, though.cutuphalfdead wrote:I didn't like the trade then and I still don't like it.numbers wrote:I liked the trade, but man, it was fun watching Iglesias play.cutuphalfdead wrote:Me too, friend. The site of Tiger stadium has a lot of Tyrones, Jamaals, and Lamars. Not a lot of Joses however.

I don't think Peavy is going to be the difference between winning or losing a playoff series. Trading a starting caliber SS to a likely playoff foe that needed one badly for a 4th starter seems like a questionable move to me.

I just don't think Peavy was worth it, and I don't think Iglesias was as much the odd man out in the infield as people made him out to be post trade. If we're sticking with Middlebrooks you move him to 1st, Bogaerts to 3rd, and Iglesias at SS. With Pedroia at 2b that is one sick fucking infield and Middlebrooks is your weakest link.numbers wrote:I think getting Peavy for just Iglesias was a good trade. If the Mets traded Rey Ordonez in his rookie year for a decent 3rd starter, would that be looked apon as a bad trade now?@SkitchP wrote:numbers wrote:I think getting Peavy for just Iglesias was a good trade. Re: MLB
EXACTLY why I don't like this trade. Peavy has been solid for us, despite his numbers being nearly identical to Dempster's. But he's not going to be the difference maker in the ALCS or anything.@SkitchP wrote:numbers wrote:I think getting Peavy for just Iglesias was a good trade. I think Iglesias has more going offensively for him than Ordonez, but I see the comparison.
Im not so much questioning the player involved as much as the fact that traded a needed piece to a likely playoff team and didnt get enough of a return to justify it in my mind.

Re: MLB
Yeah, I do think Peavy was worth it. I'm a big Peavy guy. Iglesias is a slick fielding no bat middle infielder, not the hardest thing to find. I dont have a problem trading that for a middle of the rotation starter when the team you are battling for the playoffs is loaded with starting pitching. I dont want it to sound like I dont like Iglesias though, I fucking loved watching that kid play.cutuphalfdead wrote:I just don't think Peavy was worth it, and I don't think Iglesias was as much the odd man out in the infield as people made him out to be post trade. Re: MLB
With Peralta suspended, the Tigers likely would have had to start RAMON SANTIAGO for 50 games. He can not play defense or hit. And he's 84 years old and was NEVER any good.
Couple that with the fact the Tigers now have a solid, club controlled SS for 5 years, at low dollars, and the Sox would have been better off dealing him to the Yankees.

Re: MLB
It's not like they are directly in competition with the Tigers for a playoff spot, and I have a hard time envisioning a scenario where Iglesias is the difference between the Tigers and Red Sox in a playoff series.@SkitchP wrote:numbers wrote:If the Mets traded Rey Ordonez in his rookie year for a decent 3rd starter, would that be looked apon as a bad trade now?@SkitchP wrote:numbers wrote:I think getting Peavy for just Iglesias was a good trade. It's not so much Iglesias as it is the absolute Suck that would be playing in place of Iglesias.numbers wrote:It's not like they are directly in competition with the Tigers for a playoff spot, and I have a hard time envisioning a scenario where Iglesias is the difference between the Tigers and Red Sox in a playoff series.@SkitchP wrote:numbers wrote:If the Mets traded Rey Ordonez in his rookie year for a decent 3rd starter, would that be looked apon as a bad trade now?@SkitchP wrote:numbers wrote:I think getting Peavy for just Iglesias was a good trade. Re: MLB
You're underselling his defense. Dude is fucking Ozzie Smith out there. Not with a bat, but definitely with the glove. Speaking of Ozzie Smith, besides hitting 258 his rookie year, he hovered around 220 for 3 years, then hovered around 245 for 3 more, and didn't crack 260 until he was 30 years old.numbers wrote:Yeah, I do think Peavy was worth it.
