Fair enough, but to qualify, I'm not as down on the last couple records as some, but I don't love them like the first six (sometimes Riot Act, too).

Maybe. But 'needing' stuff from it exonerates PJ of any responsibility for you not liking it.

I don't think anyone 'needs' anything. But for some of us, it's been 22 years. We're invested even if we wish we weren't.

I'm with ye except Riot act. That ones like an ex that I hate but turns up occasionally for a hot night out together and then it and the love are gone in the morning and Im left cold used and full of hate.

No other PJ record does that to me. I hate that it does.

Ha! Riot Act isn't like that for me, but I have both an album and an ex that fit that description otherwise

A badass album needs balls.

MYM has balls. +1

Lightning Bolt and Future Days do not have balls. -2

We're at -1 balls people.

Again, that's asking too much. Your life shouldn't suck cos a band you chose to 'invest' in, doesn't deliver a record that meets your list of demands, however reasonable they may seem to you.

I love music more than most people I know. And while I get excited for a new Local H or QOTSA, I don't get into freakout mode the way I do with PJ.

I don't live and die by what they put out, and while "need" was probably overstating it, I do think they need to step it up on LB

It's gonna be whatever it's gonna be. We only set ourselves for disappointment by 1. Holding it to standards set by our own take on previous records and 2. By demanding/complaining(before we've heard it) that it be 'better'.
There'll never be consensus on a pj record. It's gonna sound like it sounds like. Says more about us that we rattle on with this (200+ pages!) before its even out! I'd understand it of it were all in the MYM thread. Ranting in a speculation vacum is pointless.
Yeah I'm bored too, so I get that also.

Yes, we only set ourselves up for disappointment by having standards. The solution is obvious.

If I buy the same product from a company I've always bought from, and its flawed, I have cause for complaint. Can't apply that logic to a band though. And to try would be a bit ridiculous.
How do you make a record that'll please all your fanbase? Do the dave Mathews thing and get focus groups in? You can imagine Pj doing that?

I often wonder are they truly following their own muse or making records that they think we'll like. Stones remark 'it sounds like pearl jam' really worried me. Only cos it sounded, or I at least interpreted it, as sounding really defeated and resigned. Almost 'Nothing too challenging here, 2.5 songs each. It'll do'

That to me is a big concern. Everyone's demands and 'need this need that' is not however.

I know all of 2 people that like that band.
There's a real reason DMB don't play Europe.

Well, thanks to Ed at Wrigley we now know that Mike has 4 balls, so that should put us at a comfortable +3 by my accounting.
