Re: The Running Thread
Verb, can you ride a stationary bike while you're healing up? That was my go-to before I started running. That and rowing, when I had a gym membership.

Re: The Running Thread
I only have a treadmill. Pretty close to just saying screw it and trying to run through it in hopes it just eventually goes away. Good thing my wife works for an an orthopedic clinic I guess.

I will never in my life get a pedicure. And there's almost no circumstance under which I'd willingly consent to a massage. What else you got?washing machine wrote:Pedicure and 20 minute hot stone massage, bro. The really good places will also rub some raw citrus and exfoliating salt on those calves and it feels fucking divine.durdencommatyler wrote:MY LEGS HURT SO FUCKING BADLY

Reflexology.
It's like a deep tissue massage but it's not called a massage. Very good for your mind and body. Or you could start floating in a tank, but please do yourself a favor and seek a float spa that utilizes high ceilings and plenty of tub space. The ones that are essentially coffins or pods are, as you would expect, very confining.

That floating thing sounds super interesting. I'll definitely look into that.washing machine wrote:Reflexology.

Verb, have you tried rubbing orange juice and salt on your hip? I hear it helps.

Keep stretching and training. You clearly don't know how to rehab it. An IT band should not be this complicated I don't think. Watch youtube videos for new ideas.verb_to_trust wrote:I noticed the standard IT band pain on the side of my knee so I stopped for a bit but the real issue seems to be some persistent hip pain, possibly bursitis, at the base of my right hip. It's taking a long time to feel better, probably because I sit at a desk all day and then go home and binge watch Netflix on the couch with my cat.washing machine wrote:I don't actually remember what happened to you. I don't think I was frequenting this thread whenever it did. You okay?verb_to_trust wrote:Chicago Kinvaras are pretty. Still dont think I'm quite ready to run yet though.
It's really impacted my mood in a bad way not running.
Also cross-training is almost certainly one of the best ways to prevent injuries such as this one. Embrace the bike. Learn to skate. Do something. A guy like you should be a more complete athlete because I believe that you believe in having good health in general, and you are supposed to be a purely rational guy. Your workout regime says otherwise.

Re: The Running Thread
For sure. Again, definitely seek out the right kind of tank. Bonus points if you find a spa with a quiet room for your post-float come down. The one I use has an excellent space with complimentary tea, plenty of books laying around, hour glasses, and great lighting. I look forward ot hanging out in there more than the actual float, TBH.durdencommatyler wrote:That floating thing sounds super interesting. Marathon on May 5. Hoping to find a 10K or something before then, but pickings are slim around here.run2death wrote:Your recent improvements have been impressive.guestT wrote:I've worn Nanospikes a few times this month to keep from slipping on fresh ice. Re: The Running Thread
A great interview with Walmsley. He actually gets pretty defensive (and has smart arguments) at the end during the road/track runners vs. ultra runners debate.
The way I attack the downhills, I will break your quads and you won't be able to jog the flats anymore ... give me your 2:05 marathoner, let me take him into the (Grand) Canyon and I'll be the first one out.

-16 for a high Wednesday this week. I'm still devastated at my inactivity, but it's probably the right time of year to be hurt.

I got to run outside again today for the first time in like two weeks. It was awesome. Short (just 5 miles) but awesome.

Re: The Running Thread
I had an awful run to finish the week. After a steady week racking up more mileage per run than I’m used to, and doing it comfortably but with a push, I just didn’t have it today. Could barely make a mile and a half.
It was a gorgeous day, I felt rested leading up to it, but I just couldn’t push through. Not sure if I’m just doing too much too fast or if I was in my head.
EDIT: I have been intentionally avoiding beer the last couple of weeks, save a minor binge last Monday, but I had three double IPAs last night. I doubt I run enough for that to be it, but maybe worth noting for posterity?

Re: The Running Thread
I got my dates all screwed up. My marathon is Feb. 9, not Feb. 23!
Fuck!
Guess I'll be going out for my 20-miler tomorrow.

"life threatening cold air" is in the forecast next few days here. Has to be worse in WI. Stay safe Tim.
