Yes
I love Scott
I have now listened to 5 episodes of the REM podcast and it has completely ruined my opinion of Scott Aukerman (though I didn't really have one before). He's rude, smug, dismissive, close-minded, full of bad ideas about how music works (any song that is an instrumental or isn't hooky and upbeat is "not a real song"), not very knowledgeable and not particularly funny. I don't know how Adam Scott puts up with how he's treated by this asshole.
I’ve only gotten through the Lifes Rich Pageant episode. What song(s) does he say this about?

I listened to the first 45 minutes driving home Friday night and I could barely stand it. It was a 45 minute long introductory segment, and I swear if I wasn't listening at 1.2x I'd have thrown my phone out the window in frustration.

I understand. I had the same experience when I started listening to it. Once I understood what the show was, it all clicked and I loved it. But that first ep (I started with Murmur) threw me for a loop and I was frustrated as shit.

If it's not for you, it's not for you, but going back to the beginning and listening to the U2 iteration is helpful. Now that I'm going back it all makes much more sense.

But all of that aside... Adam Scott is still amazing.

Like the long, drawn out schticky segment on saying the band members names wrong is borderline unlistenable.

Yeah, you kind of have to go in knowing that it's predominately a comedy show. The first half is always just them goofing around. But they do get more serious/analytical when they get to the actual album discussions (which is almost always my favorite part of the show).

I also thought that the comedy segment got way better after the Chronic Town episode.

I'm fine with comedy. What I heard was just really bad comedy.

I get where Chud is coming from. Edit in some wacky sound effects and they are indistinguishable from morning-radio DJs.
