Re: 11th album rumors and speculation
Im not sure where Ed is in terms of releasing music. He seems to be only interested in the live setting although he mentioned he will get to work for a PJ album in the live show i saw last year.

Re: 11th album rumors and speculation
I'm starting to think we should blame Out of the Furnace. The tracks were apparently so bad the filmmaker refused them for his movie. Must have been a blow to Ed's confidence cuz he hasn't really written anything since.

Is this actually true or is it just bandwagoning on the "DAE Eddie Vedder sucks" meme? Songs for movies aren't used for all manner of reasons.evenslow wrote:I'm starting to think we should blame Out of the Furnace. Yeah, we have no idea what was written. Or why it was not part of the film. Maybe Eddie didn't want to release it after he saw the movie, who knows.lecherouslittlestump wrote:Is this actually true or is it just bandwagoning on the "DAE Eddie Vedder sucks" meme? I find it hard to believe that the director choose to not use it since it would have been great exposure to the movie.

i believe it's true that he wrote songs for the movie, but why they weren't used is speculation. we did get Rodlease though, so that makes everything worthwhile.lecherouslittlestump wrote:Is this actually true or is it just bandwagoning on the "DAE Eddie Vedder sucks" meme? Re: 11th album rumors and speculation
I'm seeing alot of talk about "not being able to get into the studio" or "not able to write anything". How so? If they've gone in 4-5 times and have got lots of stuff, writer's block doesn't seem to be it. I'm guessing it's creative *direction* more than creativity. Or maybe they just don't like what they have or know how to put it together into a statement.
If I were them, they should just be releasing singles (non-Xmas), a couple every year, w/ an A-side and B-side Why not? If they have material, singles are low pressure. If it sucks, it's just a song or two, and people won't read into it as a whole statement to make or break them, and the industry is basically singles oriented anyway, so.....

In fact, Pearl Jam’s front man Eddie Vedder song “Release” is featured in the film’s first trailer. In addition, 15 songs were written & performed by Eddie Vedder for the film’s soundtrack. However, by mutual decision, the writer-director & Vedder agreed that songs will not appear nor will they be commercially released as originally intended.
In an interview with HitFix, Out of the Furnace director Scott Cooper discussed this “sad for fans” determination:
“It was a very difficult decision to make because any time someone goes to those depths to write something that’s that beautiful and that personal and that meaningful to him, and to me, you want it to fit into the movie,” Cooper says. “Eddie has such a rich voice, but what makes it difficult is his voice is much like Bruce’s. It’s unmistakably Eddie Vedder. The second you hear that voice you know, ‘Jesus Christ, that’s Eddie Vedder.’ And even if I was using it as a needle drop in the film, if Christian were driving down the road and he turned on the radio and here’s this Eddie Vedder song, again, it was just so powerful. I know it sounds odd but it was so powerful that it took me out of the narrative.”
In the end, Vedder and Cooper felt the songs were best left unreleased. “They’re very personal songs to Ed and to me,” Cooper says. “I forged a close relationship with him through the movie and it’s probably better kept between us.“

They should do 5 solo albums, name the albums after the band member who directed that disc, and release all 5 on the same day. The cover can be the band member in full makeup. No disco.

HARDWICK: And it's such a wonderful fit.
COOPER: Yeah.
HARDWICK: Who thought of that? And why re-record-- did the whole band come in to do that?
COOPER: It was Ed. Just Ed. We used the original master. No, he was great. I couldn't have asked for more. He saw a rough cut of the film and I think it really stuck with him. He told me immediately that he wanted to give us a song. We had a lot of late-night brainstorming sessions, trying to figure out who Rod was and how we could express that in music and lyrics. He wrote a bunch of original songs for us and, uh...
HARDWICK: It wasn't quite there?
COOPER: It wasn't... [laugh] I guess we just weren't on the same page regarding the, uh, the aesthetics of the movie. The tone we were shooting for. I mean, some of the stuff he came up with was great. All of it, I should say. Great music that I could listen to in my car. Fun stuff, for sure. But it wasn't who Rod was, and it wasn't what I had envisioned. And I was killing myself because, fuck, here's Eddie Vedder and he wants to give me original songs for my movie and I'm just not feeling them. And then it dawned on me. Or I should say, it dawned on both of us. "Release" was the song. We recorded his new vocal track over an afternoon in Barbados, and we had the ending.
