It's like a deep tissue massage but it's not called a massage. Very good for your mind and body. Or you could start floating in a tank, but please do yourself a favor and seek a float spa that utilizes high ceilings and plenty of tub space. The ones that are essentially coffins or pods are, as you would expect, very confining.
That floating thing sounds super interesting. I'll definitely look into that.
its healing qualities are proven, especially injuries due to frost bite

I'm not fucking around with these -25 to -50 temps this week. Supposedly I have free access to an indoor track through my wife's work. Might have to check that out.

Make sure you switch directions every 20 minutes or so. Those small indoor tracks (1/10 or 1/12 mile) are known to wreak havoc on knees because of all the tight turns.

Good tip. Hopefully I'll be back outdoors by Thursday.

A bit chilly this morning. Good day for speed work.

I should have done my easy run this morning while it was bearable outside and saved the shorter speed work for the track/treadmill. Now I have to do 7 miles on the treadmill tomorrow.

-50 windchill tonight/tomorrow! Jesus.

Everything here is cancelled for tomorrow. No work for me or wife. I've heard "could use some of that global warming" a few times already.

Today's 18 was a struggle and it hasn't left me confident about my marathon, but it was after speedwork on Sunday and a MP run yesterday.

I'll probably do a couple of easy runs, then 20 on Friday. Start the taper on Saturday.

I’m dreading today’s run after the confidence killer of Sunday. In better news, I’ll be in Austin next week for a work conference at a hotel on Ladybird Lake, so I get to scratch off a scenic run in another city. Hopefully the weather is nice. Looking forward to logging a small amount of elevation gains for once.

This went awful. My lungs are there but my legs aren’t. I’m used to it being the other way around. After a mile, it took me sheer willpower to push through to the end. A measly .7 more. Wtf.

That's probably the nicest thing I've said on RM in the last year or so.

I plan to spend less than one minute in the elements today, depending how long it takes to walk too/from my car. These are the psychos you have to worry about:
http://www.fox9.com/weather/arrowhead-135-race-minnesota

INTERNATIONAL FALLS, Minn. (FOX 9) - The Arrowhead 135 is recognized as one of the 50 toughest races in the world, and it got even tougher this week as Minnesota braces for its coldest temperatures in nearly 25 years. The 135-mile endurance race is a “human powered ultra-marathon taking place in the coldest part of winter in the coldest city in the lower 48 states,” with racers going from International Falls to Tower, Minnesota on bicycle, skis or foot.

Arrowhead organizers call it the “historically coldest gosh darn race anyplace,” adding “we have frostbite to prove it.”

Monday morning, the temperature in International Falls was -9 with a wind chill of about -23. In other words, perfect weather for the Arrowhead 135.

“They come here for a hard, cold race,” race director Ken Krueger told FOX 9. “That’s why they are here.”

We talked to Krueger from the first checkpoint, 38 miles into the course.

“It’s on the Arrowhead snowmobile trail in the coldest city in the United States at the coldest time of the year,” Krueger said. “Participants go 135 miles run, bike or ski. There are three checkpoints along the way, otherwise they receive no support whatsoever. One of the checkpoints only provides water.”

Krueger has run the race nine times himself and calls it a life-changing experience.

“It pushes you to your limits,” Krueger said. “You find out what your limits are and what you are capable of. About 70 percent of our racers are returning racers. We call them veterans. So about 70 percent come back, many, probably over ten times have been here over 15 years, so we have many people that come here year after year after year.”

They come and they race because of the cold, all for bragging rights in a race like no other.

“It’s almost like if you get a warm year, it’s almost like you got cheated,” Krueger said.

Not everyone finishes the Arrowhead 135. When we checked in with Krueger on Monday afternoon, five people had already dropped out. He suspects that by the time the race ends Wednesday night, fewer than half of the 146 participants will finish.
