Re: Brexit
One question resounding all around Europe tonight.
They’ve been told repeatedly, numerous times and in no uncertain terms, the working agreement and backstop within, are not up for negotiation. They have already agreed to it.
It was their idea and the only and best deal open to them.
So why are they continuing with this farce?
Someone well placed in the eu watching the shambolic debate in the House of Commons put it perfectly.
‘This is exactly why we won’t reopen negotiations with the UK’

Re: Brexit
Will be interesting to see what happens. The speech from the SNP leader was scathing.

Re: Brexit
She was 100% right too. She’d be one of the more astute and brilliant European leaders if she just got the chance.
Irish Government response isn’t ‘go fuck yourself’ but I can’t help think it’s far away
Quote:
The withdrawal agreement is not open for renegotiation. The agreement is a carefully negotiated compromise, which balances the UK position on customs and the single market with avoiding a hard border and protecting the integrity of the EU customs union and single market. The best way to ensure an orderly withdrawal is to ratify this agreement.
We have consistently said that we want the closest possible future relationship between the EU and the UK. A change in the UK red lines could lead to a change in the political declaration on the framework for the future relationship, and a better overall outcome. We will continue our preparations for all outcomes, including for a no-deal scenario.

Re: Brexit
And as everyone long predicted, Irish American politicians from both sides, are watching.
*this will matter when he UK tries to open its own trade negotiations with the US and every other country. Brexiteers were promised all new and better deals for Britain internationally.
The US and China especially, are going to savage them.

No comment required. But oh the irony
https://www.theguardian.com/business/20 ... exit-fearsBarclays is to move €190bn (£166bn) worth of assets from the UK to Ireland as the bank readies itself for a possible no-deal Brexit.
The high court on Wednesday approved the lender’s Brexit contingency plans that include transferring the assets linked to about 5,000 of its clients to a Dublin-based unit.
“Barclays will use our existing licensed EU-based bank subsidiary to continue to serve our clients within the EU beyond 29 March 2019 regardless of the outcome of Brexit,” the bank said. “Our preparations are well advanced and we expect to be fully operational by 29 March 2019.”
Barclays will boost its Dublin headcount by about 150 to 300 as a result of the EU divorce.

I can't use the "owning the libs by ____" here because the parties are different but the idea is sound.

Re: Brexit
There’s growing outrage among the unwashed that we are ‘holding them to ransom’ and we’re ‘taking their Jobs!/banks!/businesses!!’
That part is quite funny. As it’s the same element of people you are referring to.
They voted for it and now shrieking about the outcomes of it.
Not the brightest.

Re: Brexit
For example, Sky News earlier today, interview with a woman in Sunderland saying she runs her own business and imports a niche, short-shelf-life product from Holland, and if there are delays at the ports for even 48 hours in the case of a no deal Brexit, she will be out of business.
Presenter then says- “But you voted leave?”- her response was “yes, and I have absolutely no regrets about that.”
These people are done for.

Re: Brexit
A convenient error. I don't really believe the BBC has much to benefit from a no-deal Brexit (or a Brexit at all).

You’d think so. Not so though.LetMeSleep wrote:A convenient error. I don't really believe the BBC has much to benefit from a no-deal Brexit (or a Brexit at all).
They’ve only ever been a government mouthpiece for the most part but it’s full state television propaganda in all of this. Completely biased across the board and weirdly and woefully prepared and researched in terms of their correspondents and the reporting.
It’s basically all the EU and Ireland’s fault and Brexit was forced upon them almost. No clarity or objectivity across all their countless news programs panel discussion shows and podcasts.
I can provide examples if you’re interested.

I see the 6pm bulletin almost daily and their impartiality seems to come across that way. Having worked there I can't see them being so biased.dimejinky99 wrote:You’d think so. Re: Brexit
An interesting development. I don’t get what the play is there. But how long before that turns into ‘Northern Ireland costs us £350 million a week. Money better spent here.’
Not long I’d imagine.

Everyone’s amazed. The BBC has Mary Lou on and they can’t deal with the pure sense she’s talking. There’s been a shortage of common sense in brexit let’s say. She’s outstanding here
