What's wrong is that most people are intellectually and creatively lazy...they get something that brings them enjoyment and lets them forget for a while that we're all hurtling towards death with no way to stop it. And when that ends they just want more of the same feeling, so they become misguided into thinking that the thing that brought them the enjoyment can be easily reproduced.
That won't stop them from trying though. We can debate the merits of Lost in hindsight, but what gets lost in the discussion is the cultural phenomenon that this was outside of the show. It's the last show I can remember that it seemed everyone was watching. We had discussions every morning at work the day after the show aired. We scoured the internet. We read Jeff's blog posts. Analyzed every little detail. If you "reboot" the show and basically try to tell the same story with different actors hoping to achieve the same result, it will fail miserably. Lost was lightning in a bottle, the rare show that transcends being a show and becomes much more. But it's over now, and it's not coming back. And it's especially sad that some dipshit who sits atop a major TV network doesn't realize all this.
I'd certainly be down for an expansion of the story...like someone said a Dharma Initiative backstory seems like a good place to start. Actually the show was full of threads that could be explored and mined for new ideas. But even if that happens, it's a fool's errand to expect it to have the same impact as the original show.

The only show that has come close to this is Game of Thrones and it had five books of source material.

That thing was an arduous journey of tiny snippets of answers that always accompanied new questions. It all finally came to an ending that was kinda predictable (from the first season).
Sure the production values were brilliant and the acting was high standard. But still, the thought of this all being done over again is exhausting just thinking about it.

They weren’t dead the whole time. Them being dead the whole time was a hugely popular fan theory dating back to the first season, which is part of why I loved the ending — it was a clever twist on peoples’ expectations.
As for it bringing up more questions with each of its answers, that’s just a staple of episodic storytelling. Which the show executed brilliantly. What fun would it have been if we had gotten all of the answers at the end of the first season? The whole point was to keep you engaged and questioning things until the very end, which I think it accomplished.

I couldn't disagree more and the only way I can see it as being predictable is if they were all dead, which they weren't. It drives me insane that people thought that was the ending then and that somehow that idea has stuck around to the point that whenever somebody who hasn't watched Lost hears it mentioned, by far the most common statement I hear is, "but they were all dead the whole time, right?" NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They weren't!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ah, one of the most infamous Lost episodes ever. It gets a lot of hate, and while it was pretty useless in the grand scheme of things it was a nice lighthearted diversion, it was fun to see familiar events from the prospective of people not in the ingroup, and well, Nikki was pretty hot.

I'm sure I'll give it a go when the wife and I do a rewatch later this year. I'm kinda looking forward to revisiting it at this point.
It's funny, I haven't seen most of these episodes in over 10 years but I can remember the online discussions surrounding each one so vividly. The actual episode not so much.
