Late Bush / early Obama is probably the worst post-9/11 timeframe for the US. Trump is embarrassing, but hasnt been all that bad for us if you look beyond twitter.

It's not necessarily the now I'm worried about.

I agree the future will tell. But his ideas aren't actually unpopular, they are just impolite:

I don't support him and didn't and would never vote for him, but some level of objectivity is needed where we can separate the words from the speaker.

Trump is extremely lucky he inherited a strong economy. This is part of the Democrats-being-bad-at-PR thing that the economy was so vastly improved when Obama left office from when he entered and yet that didn't seem to benefit them politically very much.

I assume it includes some combination of Puerto Rico, separated families, first provoking and then befriending North Korea without any deescalation on their part, publicly defending white supremicists, helping the Saudis cover up a murder, rewriting multiple trade deals in ways that primarily serve to cut us out, publicly supporting anti-vax conspiracy theories and trying to incorporate them into policy decisions, doubling the Mara Lago fee upon his election and then routinely giving the people who paid it administration positions, firing the FBI Director for insufficient personal loyalty, Betsy Devos, rolling back student loan protections, intentionally lying about every topic from mass voter fraud to *inventing terror attacks* whenever it served his purpose, repealing laws related to dangerous chemical, lead-based paint, and coal company waste dumping, attacking transgender rights at every angle he can think of, intentionally cultivating distrust of news organizations among a massive voter group, gutting medical research funding, mental health services, and public housing, banning departments from using the words “climate change,” or “emissions reduction,” eliminating rules requiring ISPs to ask costumer permission before selling their private data, stopping all funding to the UN Family Planning Agency, firing half the scientists on the EPA advisory board and replacing them with lobbyists, and wanting our warships to go back to goddamn steam.

And the emboldening of dictators around the world to utilize the phrase "fake news" so as to murder journalists and crackdown on opposition. A man who is so morally bankrupt yet 40% of the country supports and idolizes him.

Debra Bissell, Heather Armstrong, and Madison Armstrong: the daughter, granddaughter, and great-granddaughter of a couple from Reno, Nevada, who were murdered in their home in January 2019. A 19-year-old undocumented immigrant who had reportedly worked for the couple as a landscaper was charged in the couple’s murder; he was also charged with other homicides in the area. Trump had tweeted about this case, claiming it’s a reason why he needs his “powerful” wall.
