I have no idea how much I believe Luke about going there to die but it's all we have as of right now. And it makes a degree of sense. He went to a place where he didn't want to be found. That checks out to me.
BUT HE LEFT A FUCKING MAP! IT MAKES NO SENSE!!

to be fair it was an idiotic play, leaving such a nice and concise hole that was filled by a file inside his #1 droid. When you don't want to be found, you make it so whatever might point at you can't be found either.
The whole map thing is a tad nonsensical, I agree. But my understanding is that the map wasn't as easily read as we might think. The island was so hard to find because it was in the unknown regions. One would need the entire map to even understand where to start looking. It wasn't like they could kind of basically figure it out with a partial map. Again, I'm not saying that makes total sense but I'm pretty sure we're just supposed to suspend our disbelief and go with that.
I don’t think he did. I do think he lead her up the garden path but never committed (he was playing diplomacy for the orders from the council) and that’s sneaky
See, this is the kind of speculation I LOVE. We have actual scenes to discuss. We have concrete evidence on both sides and we can talk about what we don't know based on what we do know. This is great. Maybe this isn't the right thread for this talk, but I think it's really interesting if he did. I love the implications of that -- not as they pertain to lineage or Rey or any of that but just as a student of both Qui-Gon and Yoda, what does it say about his character if he did "break the Jedi code" like that?
Further, what does the Jedi code actually say about sex? We know attachment is forbid but what about lust? What about love? What about pleasure?
