The point was never to actually do a "comprehensive and encyclopedic compendium" of anything. It's a comedy show. And it's wonderful.VinylGuy wrote:i never listened to them. Or the u2 thing. Thats the joke in every episode?durdencommatyler wrote:That's LITERALLY the joke, TVG.VinylGuy wrote:I expected that. I almost wanted to hear it. But enough man, talk about the fucking album. Its almost a lie.
Go back and listen to the very first ep of the first (U2) season.
Man. Thats. Hilarious.

Just listened to the accelerate ep and it’s way better. At least they discuss the album.
I agree with the idea of being better than it is. Kinda like around the sun being the worst album were it’s actually a good one.
The first 4 songs are impressive though.

New Adventures in HiFi is my favorite of theirs. Wake Up Bomb is one of the songs that gets to the heart of this album with Bittersweet Me and some others that perfectly balance R.E.M.’s bigger heavier sound while keeping with the hooks of their earlier days. I know people really love their 80s IRS output and I do too, but give me Automatic For the People through Up period where they went through so much change and reacted to their own sound by reaching for the opposite from one album to the next.VinylGuy wrote:listening to New Adventures....Fuck i love The Wake Up Bomb.

Re: How The West Was Won And Where It Got Us: An REM Thread
Just had New Adventures playing this afternoon, and I've noticed two things
1) There's no real low points on this album - just parts that shoot REAL high
2) Undertow doesn't seem to get the love it deserves around these parts
