As far as I can tell, she made comments suggesting it was good that Amazon backed out. And now every clueless, out of touch idiot is giving her shit because it’s their favorite thing to do.

Where? I’m seeing like two tweets about it and she does not say that.bada wrote:Think the issue is she claimed the 3 billion in tax incentives that Amazon won't get can now be spent on other stuff which isn't how it works.

No, none of this. She was the national level platform for opposing the deal since early January because workers or gentrification or something like that. The video from MSNBC shows the overwhelming support for the deal among everyone but white progressives (is there anything they don’t fuck up?). I’m cool with it actually as those of us in the NoVa area are more than happy to take another 5-10k six figure jobs opportunities and all the infrastructure that comes with it.
But hey, at least Long Island City didn’t have to suffer another SweetGreen opening.

Nah, she’s right. Worker exploitation and gentrification is exactly what would happen. Fuck Amazon, fuck Bezos, and fuck the politicians who aren’t pushing for better options for Americans.
Nothing will turn me off a politician faster than bending over backwards for corporate power because “jobs.” I’m a working class American and I don’t want fucking jobs - I want a better lifestyle that doesn’t force us to desperately rely on being subsidized by corporations.

Re: AOC
What I don't understand about not wanting Amazon in town is that it sort of puts you in the position of not wanting a strong middle class in your town. The numbers I keep seeing floated is 25,000 jobs at an average salary of $150,000. I would think in Long Island City that makes you middle class. Yet it's been made out like the middle class is going to destroy LIC. Really?
Think I’m going to try being kind to everyone a chance.

Also, working in their warehouses is a dehumanizing hellscape (like most low-level corporate jobs):

So AOC is worried about people making $28K gentrifying a neighbourhood. What kind of shit hole is it if $28k is going to gentrify the place.McParadigm wrote:Twenty eight thousandcutuphalfdead wrote:Yeah but what's the median salary?
