The complaints range from ‘it’s racist/ white saviour movie/ insulting to black people ‘ right up to really extreme stuff where they’ll only be happy when it’s a film written directed and starring all black people. And made 100% by a black cast and crew.

Really ugly backlash against it out there.

It’s easily a better film than any of the films it was up against.

Everything just feels like an over-correction to the point of insincerity.

I’m a little disappointed we didn’t get a performance or “All the Stars”. I like that song a lot.

I really liked Roma and Ballad of Buster Scruggs. Roma would have had a shot 3-5 years ago I think.

I like Queen, but I really have no desire to see it based on what I've heard from people I trust.

I thought it was really good. Very atmospheric. And I honestly liked it less than most people I’ve talked to about it, because I got a little hung up on historical inaccuracies. Three people I work with, my brother and sister in law, my mother, and a couple of good friends, all people with different tastes and background, said it was the best movie they have seen in the last couple of years. My girlfriend liked it as well, but not at that level.

It kinda feels like Almost Famous. In terms of feel good factor.
It does this well. It barely touches on Freddie’s personal struggles and I came away wanting more of that cos I feel Remi could have really brought a lot to that.
But other than that I’d say see it.
It made me want to find out the real story about Queen and in many ways that’s what these kinds of movies are meant to do imo.

True. That was a choice from the band I believe. Sacha Baron Cohen wanted to make a movie with Freddie in a lot of pain and struggles, but it would be something very different. I know people that saw it, that are have recently watched the Queen documentary and bought their music. It did a good job in that way.

The few moments it does touch on that stuff, his wife, his loneliness, his hiv diagnosis, almost feel totally out of place cos they’re completely skipped over. They have him like ‘ok fine. Next’. And that was a disservice to him and the film.

But it would need a whole other film to do all that.

Still really enjoyed this though.
