I direct you to the "Random RMer reference of the day." thread where people find things in life that reminds them of one of the many posters on this fine board.

I'm gonna set the over/under on the chances that Ep 9 is terrible at 42%

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX (2019)
There is a 42% chance that the movie is terrible. Do you think it has a higher than 42% chance of being bad (the over) or do you think it has less than a 42% chance of being bad (the under)?
It's not a Collider or an American thing, dime. It's a gambling thing. And it's not that complicated.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX (2019)
It’s not used anywhere outside the US that I’ve ever heard.
Why 42?
Hitchiker guide to the galaxy reference?
I know 50% of people online are gonna love it and 50% online will hate it.
In the real world, 85% of regular people that see it will love it and move on with their lives and 15% won’t. Both these factions will move on with their lives.
The .5% from either side will rant online for two years.
It’ll do about $1.8 billion globally in theatres.

Just because 50% is too easy. And if you're betting you want to... never mind. It was just a random number I picked.

I hope I like it. I don’t care if anyone else doesn’t. (Meaning those guys. Comicsgate etc)
Even if I don’t ill brainwash myself, within reason, to force myself to like it.
But TFA is still my favourite of the new movies. I trust JJ deeply.
I’m very confident he’s gonna bring it home and make everyone happy.

I need to be reminded how "over/under" works every fucking time.
I dont gamble, never have, never will.
Thanks for the refresher!

I still believe that this movie will deliver. I'd give it a 70% certainty. That's despite being disappointed in TLJ, and finding TFA good but flawed. Why? Because JJ is a safe bet. He almost always delivers.

Well the rumours about multiple battles galaxy wide on all fronts, has a worrying whiff of ROTJ about it.
I’d be ok with that too as long as that’s not all it is. Endless big action sequences.
There better be a story with some meat on it.
Thinking about it, the opening crawl for this one is crucial. You can set up and explain so much in those three paragraphs if you do it right.

Yeah, the opening crawl will be a big part of this.
If there is a year between TLJ and IX, then maybe the crawl explains that other systems came to the resistance rescue? but then you lose the suspense you built up that no one heard the distress call from TLJ.
If you spend IX gathering help to have big battles, then you need something else in the crawl.
I dunno. I think they didn't plan this very well. The conflict between the FO and the Republic/Resistance was pretty weak to begin with, then weirdly up in the air at the end of TLJ.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX (2019)
This new trilogy does not do a very good job of explaining how the First Order was able to build/finance such a huge military complex. Who supports them? Who are their allies, politically speaking? Outside of their military might, what influence do they have? Do they territories, etc.?
I'm talking about in the films themselves, not some spinoff comic or decoder ring in a cereal box.

Very good point. There a many things that are hardly explained at all in the ST. There's a lot more action than backstory, and the movies take place over a fairly short amount of time, especially TLJ.Monkey_Driven wrote:This new trilogy does not do a very good job of explaining how the First Order was able to build/finance such a huge military complex. Re: Star Wars: Episode IX (2019)
I prefer that the stories not get bogged down in stuff like that. It's easy enough to imagine an answer that you can put it out of your mind--all they would need to do would be to control a couple of systems with important natural resources (your coaxium or unobtanium, if you will), and they've got the backing to build huge ships, buy slaves to program for their armies, etc. The whole Republic/Resistance thing was a bit tougher to wrap your head around, and I think that's because they did try to explain it.
