cull the fan base, then release the music you want. that's the path they need.
The hilarity of this statement is that some of you guys are the ones who were "culled" by Backspacer, but you just couldn't handle it. Butthurt, alright.
keep culling it down to like 100 people, that's what i'm saying

Seems like a huge waste of time/energy, especially for a band that's been around as long as PJ.
I don't think there's anyone here who likes the band's older output any less even though they've been disappointed in the band's recent material, almost everyone here is still a Pearl Jam fan in some respect (even if their fandom is strictly historical).

It's also the nature of the board having existed for a long time; people have developed friendships and camaraderie with other RM posters (and the Pearl Jam discussion is only one aspect of this place, perhaps not even the dominant aspect) and so it doesn't seem unusual to me that they'd continue to hang around, even once the initial reason they came here has fallen away.
This makes sense and gets a head nod until you take it a little further... some of these people who hang around for the camaraderie talk the same shit over and over and over again. This is what meatwad was getting at - the eternal question is not why still post here, it's why still post the same negative shit about something you haven't liked for years and years.

But again that's so baked into the RM cake at this point I don't even ever think about it much anymore.

I (still) like The Fixer but that Target commercial was definitely one of the band’s biggest blunders.

I still think their biggest blunder was having a Major motion picture be made celebrating the band by one of Hollywood’s most credible directors.

And not having new music to accompany it. A 5 minute tag on at the end of the movie
Under the heading of “present day” showing the band working on the new album and you had the best/easiest marketing available.

People’s interest could of seriously spiked but no.

Making an already somewhat gaudy marketing tool into an ad for new music sounds worse

Yes, and yes. I'm not saying "please go away" .... although that might be healthy for you and for others, that's totally up to you. But, Jeezus, we have heard you loud and clear. I barely come around here anymore, it's broken record and no one says one damn new thing when I come back here after several months.(and that's not on the band, that's on yourselves).... just complete rot. I just have to find somewhere else to go, and well, I have plenty of other outlets, no biggie. If someone ever says anything slightly new or different, I'd certainly love to come back and engage, cause it can be fun and illuminating. But I'm not counting on it.....

Look, im strat, i love pearl jam more than most, but the band hasn't done anything new in 6-14 years depending on who you ask. There's nothing to talk about right now. This allows for the same jokes to be recycled in the similar fashion pearl jam recycles their MO for the past decade.

one might say that people aren't making constant negative comments about the band, but subconsciously making misguided negative comments about themselves as a coping mechanism for their years of steadfast, sometimes blind devotion, and the disappointment they've burdened themselves with once a certain level of maintained expectation stopped being met.

No, you are blaming it on the band and are not coming to grips with what you yourself can control. Whether the band releases anything that interests you or not, you are perfectly capable with coming up with a fresh and new thought.

Nah. There is literally nothing new or different to talk about with pearl jam. not until they drop a new album or a new song or something.
