I'm pretty sure I saw his PT cut and it was solid.

There’s quite a few notable pt edits out there.
I’m sure I half paid attention to one. At some point.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX (2019)
shrug. I've only seen it twice and that last time was whenever it was available on dvd (library)bune wrote:I thought the ending wasn't that no one heard, but that no one wanted to come help because they didn't believe in the idea anymore. And that Luke coming back was the spark the resistance needed to start up again.blueviper wrote:Yeah, the opening crawl will be a big part of this.
If there is a year between TLJ and IX, then maybe the crawl explains that other systems came to the resistance rescue? but then you lose the suspense you built up that no one heard the distress call from TLJ.
If you spend IX gathering help to have big battles, then you need something else in the crawl.
I dunno. I think they didn't plan this very well. The conflict between the FO and the Republic/Resistance was pretty weak to begin with, then weirdly up in the air at the end of TLJ.
Or am I misremembering a movie I last saw in 2018?

I'm talking about in the films themselves, not some spinoff comic or decoder ring in a cereal box.
In fact, the OT is so bad at it that it required an entire new trilogy to explain it.

I'm still thinking they should have just used the Republic vs. First Order, instead of adding a third wheel with the Resistance.
or something else. I was never keen on the idea of Rebels vs. Empire part II

There’s zero explanation in the OT about the empire or how they came to be and all those other factors you mentioned.
Granted we have different expectations now but the offshoot story telling about the first order and their birth is kinda cool.
‘Remnants of the imperial fleet went into hiding and regrouped in the unknown regions of space and have returned as the first order who have begun their campaign to retake control of the galaxy’
That’s all it would have taken in the TFA opening crawl. Nobody would have blinked. It would. Have explained all we needed.
Should have done that
The beauty of the OT is you don't really need in depth explanations. You can tell by the actions, and the few lines of dialogue, and the opening crawl. There are bad guys ruling the galaxy, there are good guys trying to oppose the bad guys. Nuff said. It's the simplicity of the good vs. evil that works in the OT and can't be recreated in the ST without feeling like a rip off

TFA opening crawl literally tells you it’s the resistance vs the first order. Don’t think it mentions the new republic at all? Been a while.
It’s jot a perfect opening crawl in that regard but it is in setting up what’s happening.
Luke Skywalker has vanished!
That’s the greatest most intriguing line in all the crawls
The TFA crawl could have just been that one sentence and it would have worked perfectly

So the original Star Wars trilogy created goodies v baddies and everything that ever came after is a lame rip off and that dynamic can’t be recreated?

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX (2019)
I'm saying the OT does good vs. bad so well that the ST is just ripping it off. I get that SW is a rip off of other movies. But the OT does it well with out having to go into backstories and comics and books and tv shows. You get why Vader is bad. You get why Luke is good. You understand the fate of the galaxy rides on the Rebels defeating the Empire.dimejinky99 wrote:blueviper wrote:Monkey_Driven wrote:That's not really true. The ST takes that, changes the names, and sells it to us again, ALONG with the backstories, comics, tv shows. It's crap.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX (2019)
I love the new dynamic that The Republic doesn't see a threat in the First Order, though. I think that's such a cool layer to the story. It plays to Leia's character and her strengths and it speaks to the dangers of established governments/bureaucracy in such a fantastic way. And it makes sense within the context of where the story left off in RotJ.Monkey_Driven wrote:I agree with this.blueviper wrote:I'm still thinking they should have just used the Republic vs. First Order, instead of adding a third wheel with the Resistance.

I don't think the new stuff is crap, but it would be more interesting to see a full capable Republic recognize and go after a rogue entity of evil like the Resistance. An inverse of the original trilogy.
