Gotta Catch 'em All: a POKEMON thread

I don’t really care about Sword and Shield, but I busted out Pokemon Yellow for the Game Boy Color the other day to try out some exploits. Before the first gym this was my team:

Pikachu level 9
Nidoran F level 4
Nidoking level 100
Gengar level 100

How? Well there’s a glitch called “experience underflow” that lets you catch a level 1 pokemon, and they immediately level up to 100 because level 1 pokemon shouldn’t exist in the game.

I can also get a level 100 Venusaur before the gym but I didn’t care since you can get Bulbasaur in Yellow normally.

Pokemon is 25 years old today.

I also recently acquired a massive stack of Pokemon games for the Game Boy Advance, DS and DS3. I got Ruby, Sapphire, Leaf Green, Pearl, Black, Black 2, White, White 2, Moon, Ultra Moon, Heart Gold and Omega Ruby. I've never played any of those after Leaf Green.

I think Ruby/Sapphire was the last gen. I completed. Outstanding games. I think Silver is still my fav.

I started Ruby but I got burnt out on leveling my guys up to fight the Elite 4 a while back.

I didn’t like how the game basically handed me a super powerful legendary before I could even do the 8th gym either.

I used legendary birds as kid with Red and Blue, but I left them alone in the following games. I feel as though they made the game too easy, and sucked an element of character from your party.

The new one looks like a combination of pokemon n breath of the wild.. is it gonna be worth picking up?

I've never actually played a real pokemon game (only pokken tournament).. I might give it a go for something new

Yeah the only pokemon game I've ever played is the original and I've already pre ordered this new one.

It does look kinda neat. I've never played one before or watched the show. My kid has a ton of cards that sit in a box in his closet. Excellent investment.

I ended up getting most of what was released up through the mid 2010's a couple years ago, but haven't really taken the dive beyond beating Ruby. I don't have Switch but Legends Arceus does sound really cool.

And yeah, I still have a lot of my OG late 90's holographic cards. Charizard, Dark Charizard from the Team Rocket set, Gyarados, a couple Articunos and Mewtwos, and the Eevee evolution trio are probably the most valuable ones I have.

Any thoughts from any of you on Arceus? The beginning is a little clunky, and "completing" each dex entry requires a lot for each one. But I like the openness of it and roaming around getting my ass kicked by Alpha's I have no business battling yet.

Yeah this is definitely the place I'm at as well. I'm still not the best at battling the big Alpha ones roaming out there, but it is fun just looking around for new ones everywhere.

Croagunks are my favorite but man are they assholes in this game. They seem to sneak up on me much better than any other type.

I’m all in on this and really enjoying it now. Leveling up is a little tedious but i like just running around and battling/catching. I’ve not mastered sneaking up on ones in the water while I’m riding around on the Basculegion

Question..

The 6 pokemon I fight with.. is there a way I can switch them out with others I caught.. like I have 3 of the same kind

Yes. Go to the fields in the village or the guard in any camp and switch them out any time
