I saw Captain Marvel last night and it was better than expected. Overall about a 76.5- on 10. It is probably helped in that I went in with really low expectations. It works better as a stand alone movie than part of the MCU storyline.
The movie flows pretty well. It is entertaining.
Nick Fury having lots of screen time is great and they did a great job of bringing his character back in time. He's not nearly as assured as in future MCU movies.
Same for his SHIELD sidekick, totally forget his name.
I thought Brie did a decent job with the character she was given but she has next to no character development. As such there is an inconsistency to her character at times and makes some of the plot devices a little cringe-worthy and disjointed. She is not very animated nor does she ever come across as focused and intent as Black Widow.
Captain Marvel has next to no emotional investment to earth so dropping her into End Game seems far fetched.
Glad I saw the movie but it leaves me a little worried about End Game.
There's definitely some explaining to do in Fury's part on why he never called her in on some of the previous attacks on Earth. Introducing Captin Marvel and her near unlimited powers so late in the game creates plot holes in previously sound movies.
Red conning is hard and Marvel has not nailed it in this case.
Think I’m going to try being kind to everyone a chance.

But Thanos snapped out half the universe, not half of Earth's population.

Go see the movie and tell me if you think she is emotionally invested in anything. That's not Brie's fault entirely, her character was written that way.

You got that part right. ;)

As for the other bits they're going to be explained in End Game, actually:
Rhodey asks where she was because they could have used her before. Cap M says a lot of other planets out there need help and they don't have Avengers like Earth has. Thor gets up from sitting quietly in back, walks up to Cap M, and summons his axe…

That doesn't align entirely with what's in the CM movie. She either ignored Fury's requests for help or Fury didn't request help. Neither is satisfactory.

The current audience rating of 36% on Rotten Tomatoes is shameful and does not reflect the movie I saw.

I just received an email from the theatre I saw Captain Marvel at asking for a thumbs up or down rating. I have never received this kind of thing before. I wouldn't be surprised if Rotten Tomato replaces the online audience rating with the responses from the email campaign from people who have actually seen the movie.

That would be interesting, though skewed by people who purchase online. We always buy at the BO because of the service fees.

Who cares about Rotten Tomatoes?? People choose to see or not a movie because of that?

I'm with Burt. There's every possibility that the next phase will be lost. I mean, building for ten years is huge, but I don't think they can do it twice.

It already has 5,000 more user votes than Infinity War. Whatever you think of the movie/Marvel/Disney, that vote score is being intentionally warped by people whose opinions about it are not cinematically inspired. That’s not shameful, but it is pathetic.

I can’t imagine that anybody anywhere values or relies on RT user scores, but that just makes it all the more pathetic that people who definitely haven’t seen the film would cling to such a castrated desire to “hurt” it.

Brie Larson is the Christoph Waltz of womenfolk. It's like watching wood try to act. Why are these people famous?

Anything negative relating to DisneyMarvel will always be amusing to me
