This works for me. It's a good way of experiencing the high gun-shootin/slingin skill level of the character. I don't have this skill, but Arthur does and I'm him now.
That logic can be applied to any character in any game ever.

I didn't say it makes perfect sense and maybe I'm not explaining it well. RDR2 isn't completely realistic, I know, but its level of realism works for me. I find myself completely immersed in the world and invested. Whereas, in Horizon, the way she rolls and jumps, etc. may seem trivial, but it completely kills my suspension of disbelief.

And can only move at two speeds. An extremely slow walk and a half jog. And can only interact with items that have a button prompt.
But it LOOKS real/awesome. That's what matters to me here.

Horizon and Red Dead are toe to toe to me in terms of graphics and art direction. There are some later areas in Horizon that are just stunning, especially with HDR. The robot design is on another level.

Do you find the actual movement frustrating? Is the moment to moment gameplay enjoyable? I would focus on that if possible. Also, how far are you into the game?

I thought I clarified this. I'm so turned off by poor visual and mechanical aesthetics that I can't enjoy the gameplay. I got to the point where I just pushed the crate through the floor and left that area. There are many NPCs and side quests beckoning but I have no interest in pursuing any of them.

I would not describe the visuals or mechanical nature of the movement as poor. It is actually quite smooth and works fluidly in combat. You may find it incongruent with the world, but it is not poor by any means.

You compared it to moving like Mario, a series known for its excellent player movement and precision.

Incongruent, yes.

Random thought on these huge platform games:

Maybe I’m getting cynical but I find it a tad strange that Nintendo (only console I have for reference personally) puts out these huge games like Odyssey and BotW (expansion pack notwithstanding) in a world of in-game purchases.

They sell you one game for $60 and you can play it a reaaaally long time before you go and shell out $60 for another game. For that reason I would think they make the games smaller/shorter; so you actually finish and buy another game.

I think Nintendo deserves some praise for not monetizing these games after launch. Maybe it has something to with their user base being generally younger than PS/Xbox? However i've never felt compelled to buy in game stuff in any of the big sandbox games out there beyond expansions.

The appeal of these big sandbox games is that if you want to rush through it, you can beat the core game and move on to the next in a reasonable amount of time or you can take your time and immerse yourself in the world and do all the extra exploration/collection stuff. That's what really pads out the play time.

There's nothing more annoying in an old school video game than when you have to navigate through a board that has a floor made up almost entirely of spikes

Love that I can save a game on the Nintendo Switch, keep playing the same save on the Xbox, then continue on the Switch again.

I created a handful of RMers as players on Madden 20. I didn't overdo anyone's numbers/skills. I just wanted to see how they'd progress on their own. So far Ruddo is killing it as a middle linebacker. He's advanced the furthest at the fastest rate.
