Probably the best Star Wars movie period.
Tough competing with the original and Empire, two of the best movies of all time.

We'll have to agree to disagree there. I'm not really a big fan of the Star Wars movies.

First Contact is too flawed to be the best. The rest of the Picard movies are nowhere near Khan level. There are Next Gen episodes that are far better than the movies.

More notes on the messy production that was Rogue One! https://www.slashfilm.com/how-rogue-one ... ris-weitz/

(Disclaimer: I don't really care how messy a production gets as long as the final product is good)

The Death Star/Jedha destruction scene has some incredible effects.

The whole movie has incredible effects; Edwards really knows CGI, particularly how to use it to create scale.

Tarkin and Leia are what they are, but still.

It does. That scene just really stood out to me. Everything seemed so real. A rarity today.

Did they use models for the star destroyers? They really don’t look CG at all.

I had the same thought. Especially the Star Destroyer on Jedha. Everything just seems to have a weight to it.

The Star destroyers and the way the camera and other ships interacted with them in the final battle definitely make it feel like they used really detailed models. Seem to remember them really stressing that they had to match exactly the SDs in a new hope, which were handmade at great and painstaking detail.
I’d say it’s more about how he used the camera around them with scale up close and far away that gives them that heft along with some brilliant sound design too. Something that goes unnoticed mostly.

The hammerhead collision into one and it then smashing into another. Just brilliant.

Rogue one ends with Leia escaping from Vader with the Death Star plans. A new hope opens with Vader catching up with her and capturing her to get the plans.

That order.
