Marvel Comics Announces Jonathan Hickman's Return

Following an ominous teaser in last week's books, Marvel Comics has announced that superstar writer Jonathan Hickman will return to the publisher for a currently unknown book.

The announcement came in this week's Marvel comics. The name "Hickman" appeared on pages, bearing an identical style and font to the tease from last week. The page doesn't reveal exactly what book he'll be working on, but it does indicate that it's slated for release in July, meaning that solicits for whatever it is should appear around this time next month, if it's not revealed before then.

Although it's not totally clear at this time for what book Hickman will return, the previous tease narrows down the field a lot. That tease reads, "When two aggressive species share the same environment, evolution demands adaptation or dominance." The language used there definitely sounds like something from an X-Men book. However, some believe that it might also refer to the Inhumans or Eternals. It's also entirely possible that this is a tease for an event comic of some sort.

Hickman has helmed a number of high-profile books for Marvel in the past, including Fantastic Four, The Avengers and The New Avengers. He was also responsible for two major events: 2013's Infinity and 2015's Secret Hickman is also known for his creator-owned work at Image Comics. Those titles have included East of West, The Manhattan Projects and The Nightly News.
Great news!

My library just got this 650 page Spider-Verse compilation. It is bonkers and so much fun. I'm ready for the Into the Spider-Verse sequel.

I'm also reading this, but I don't think it's the kind of graphic novel that this thread is made for.

How's Before Watchmen? I liked the original Watchmen. This is kinda pricey.

Read "The Pro" the other day. Not for the faint of heart. A tamer version of the Super-Dopes that populate his other series "The Boys", several themes are explored here that would never see the light of day in a regular DC or Marvel book. There are ideas in it that sound good until you get a little closer, like the "what we need are guys with the balls to drop bombs on schools and hospitals, because that's where these assholes like to hide" part of the book. Given the book was published in 2004, I get that sentiment but 15 years later it's a little worn out.

Again, if you've read The Boys and enjoyed that and somehow missed this one-off, check it out. Otherwise keep in mind that this is not at all what you would see in just about any mainstream comic released.

Reading Nameless right now. Man, this is so far up my alley.
Branding Nameless as a complex madness is actually an understatement. In one corner, It's Event Horizon (1997) meets Prometheus (2012) and in the other side of the aisle, it's the bastard child of Inception (2010) and the Exorcist (1973). On the top of that, the story is filled with Jewish mythology and terms from Kabbalah, Thelema, Mayans, Enochian and other occult references. If you don't know any of this stuff, your head will be screwed with as you read the story. I knew mine was. I had to take an Internet crash course on all these topics just to understand Morrison's references.
I'm about halfway through and it's hitting the occult spot I have just right. Yeah there are some confusing moments so far but nothing taking me out of the story. I'm sure there are also references that I'm missing but that's not a deterrent just yet. Going to probably finish the rest during lunch but man this is great so far.

Finished it and...well. Fuck. I don't know what the hell actually happened here. It was so awesome and then it just wasn't. I don't get it, but I'm going to try to.

I like that children of superheroes always have powers, but they're always different. It's like they inherited a gene mutation, but it's not even the same mutation.
