ok then. one mouse wheel flick through the list and i'd rank these (non-singles) above Sugarhill Gang:
Dexter Gordon "Go"
Nina Simone "Mississippi Goddam"
Curtis Mayfield "Superfly"
Sonny Rollins "Saxophone Colossus"
John Coltrane "A Love Supreme"

Minnie the Moocher is the obvious #1.
Cab Calloway is the fucking shit.

The business side of music is very interesting. Ultimately the band name is the brand and whoever owns the right to the band name is the true boss. I am learning so much as I try to keep one step ahead what my kid's band needs to worry about. All the publishing rights stuff, incorporating as a band and the consequences. Now it's hiring a management team. Setting the relationship to the management team as both the band being the board of directors who the management team is responsible to and the management team is the boss of the band in day to day activities. Big stuff for a couple of kids 25 and 20. I can see how bands get lost and abused in the process.
Think I’m going to try being kind to everyone a chance.

My little town is opening a new amphitheater downtown and somehow they managed to get Sponge to play the grand opening.
Pretty awesome, free Sponge concert that I don't have to go anywhere for.

My town is very small and the amphitheater is really just a bandstand and a few rows of benches. The fact thats it's a band I've even heard of (and actually would like to see live) is pretty cool.
