What are some examples of a rock band making a great record after being together 25+ years?

Ok, I'll rephrase my question:

What are some examples of a rock band making a great record after 25+ years has passed since the release of their debut album?

Acthung Baby was 15 years after U2 formed, and 11 years after their first album.

Radiohead formed before 1990, and A Moon Shaped Pool is a great record. But it’s an exception.

It's not like Pearl Jam even came close, though. Their last great album came out ten years after they formed, nine after their debut.

I can’t imagine anyone’s expecting or disappointed by the lack of greatness, these days. Good would be nice.

You could say Neil Young and Crazy Horse, possibly Springsteen and the E Street Band, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers...but I don’t think the albums I would list would be “generally considered” great albums.

I guess I don't really consider them bands in the same way as Pearl Jam. It's more like a solo artist with a band.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers is absolutely a band.

Yeah, those kinds of things are on a case-by-case basis. Someone like Neil Young probably can't be compared to a band, as he can hopscotch from group to group with ease. But someone like Tom Petty or Nick Cave, who routinely work with the same band and that band has a role in songwriting and/or arrangements? I think that's a fair comparison. And Cave's made some of his best work recently.

Yeah, but at the same time The Bad Seeds are different guys than when they started. Its not the same.

Agree about the Bad Seeds; their line-up has never remained static for very long.

Sonic Youth put out Rather Ripped after 25 years, which was a very respectable late-period album with some great songs.

The real answer to this question is: nobody.

I love Radiohead, but Moon Shaped Pool is very good/solid not truly great.

Petty and Springsteen and Neil are a different bird. Heartbreakers, E Street and Crazy Horse all no doubt contributed to the greatness, but each guy came in and out of that dynamic when it pleased them.

There's no real apples to apples comparison here.

Lots of bands making some nice records after 25 years (return to form), but no one actually making a no doubt, almost everyone agrees "great" record.

If Pearl Jam puts out something as good as Steel Wheels at this point, that would be the comparison.

SY did Sonic Nurse, which is as good as any of their classics.

Another Binaural/Riot Act would be a great achievement.
