As an outsider, Mayor Pete is making a lot of sense. Has next to no chance though.

Re: Election 2020
Who knows? The pendulum seems to swing more and more wildly over the last few presidents. We went from the Texas cowboy everyone wanted to have a beer with to the black Harvard law professor to the scumbag narcissist businessman who raw dogs porn stars. Is a married gay man really that crazy an idea anymore?

By all metrics, healthcare was the predominant driver of the 2018 blue wave. This revisiting, complete with Trump sound bites and senators forced to go on record as either flatly supporting the effort or going against the president, is a mess for anyone hoping that Republicans come out ahead in 2020.
Or, as a Republican strategist put it, “WTF is wrong with them?”

Re: Election 2020
This was my thought a few weeks ago. Now I'm thinking his chances are a little better. I think once we get to the debates in a few months, he will do very well on that stage. I also think once the primary is in full swing and we see candidates on stage together, Beto is going to have a hard time competing. He won't have a counter or car to stand on, and his answers are always lacking. I think Mayor Pete fills that "Beto lane" better than the man himself. I could see lots of Beto supporters moving over to Buttigieg. I could see a chunk of supporters on the progressive side, like myself, gravitating toward him too (I think I already have, personally).LetMeSleep wrote:As an outsider, Mayor Pete is making a lot of sense. Reflecting widespread concerns within his party, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy has told President Trump he disagrees with the Trump administration's attempt to get the entire Affordable Care Act thrown out in court.
McCarthy told Trump over the phone that the decision made no sense — especially after Democrats killed Republicans in the midterms in part over the issue of pre-existing conditions, according to two sources familiar with their recent conversation. As Bloomberg's Sahil Kapur points out — health care was the top issue for 2018 midterm voters, and voters who cared most about health care favored Democrats over Republicans by more than 50 percentage points.
