The Hop Stoopid is AWESOME. It's has an 8.0% ABV , but it doesn't taste like it. Wish they sold it in 6 packs.
You're right, it was quite tasty. Unfortunately it's not available where I live. Would definitely pick this up again.

Just picked up a 6 pack of this:

Talk about a limited release -- our entire distribution district got 3 cases of it.

Nice! Oracles aren't really all that fun unless you have to work pretty hard to find one I guess.

Some good breweries (sort of) nearby:

Captain Lawrence Brewing: The Captain's Reserve DIPA is really nice and theire most popular is the Freschester Pale Ale. They brew a ton of different styles. They're about 3 miles South of Lake George.

Ommegang Brewery is about 2 hrs. South and West of Lake George. They brew Belgian beer and anything you find is probably delicious. My favorites are the Belgian Pale Ale and the Hennepin Saison.

Lake Placid Brewing is about an hour and a half North of Lake George. I've only had their Ubu Ale which should be readily available and it's pretty good. I've heard their best beer is only available at the brewpub.

Ithaca Brewing- Not really that close but I love their beer. One of my favorite breweries and you should be able to find it easily in Lake George. The Flower Power DIPA is excellent, Their pumpkin beer, Country Pumpkin just came out and is usually good. Another favorite is their Caskazilla, a hoppy red ale. Really nice.

If you're looking for a local brewpub, there's the Adirondack Brewpub right in Lake George. The beer and food is good. I was there last year and really liked it.

Bottle shops are lacking in Lake George so stock up on the way up? For what it's worth, the drive up to Lake Placid is beautiful so maybe do a brewery trip??

Have a great trip man, the Adirondacks are my favorite part of NY State.
Hope this helped.
Much appreciated. I will definitely check some of these out and report back.

Ommegang makes some good fucking beer. Love the Hennepin. Had the Rare Vos yesterday and enjoyed that as well.

Theres a homebrewing thread, yeah. A few questions, dry or liquid yeast? How long have you been waiting? What temp did you pitch the yeast at and what temp is it at n
dry yeast, 26 degrees when i put it in, 5 days in now, right now it's sitting around 20 degrees.
i don't have a hydrometer but i'mma pick one up tomorrow and have a look. some people on the internet have said it doesn't always bubble and it's better to just use the hydrometer to tell if it's working. i'm just worried maybe it's not sealed properly, the fermenter is pretty old.

Their Pale Ale isn't one of my favorites, but I do love their IPA and the Ruination IPA.
Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is pretty much my go to beer. Because of that, my local distributor reccomended the pale ale over the IPA. He said the west coast brews tend to be much hoppier. I was impressed with Stone. I always thought they were just marketed really well and that it wouldn't live up to the hype. I'm looking forward to trying more of their stuff.
Stone lives up to the hype, they are one of the most solid breweries the USA has. Funnily I was thinking back this weekend that I was at the brewery in 2001, they have gotten much bigger but the beer really speaks for itself; though I must say their brew-pub restaurants sound amazeballs.

So Saturday night I was presented with an interesting choice. For context, at our fantasy football draft, each team brings 2 bottles of really good, high-quality beer based on a specific type (e.g., stout, IIPA, IPA, ale, pilsner). Each team then gets assigned a specific type of beer (you can't get assigned the type of beer that you bring), and has the choice between the two without being told what kind of beer it is.

I was assigned a bourbon-barrel aged stout. I had the choice between Choice 1 and Choice 2. I picked Choice 2, which turned out to be a 2012 Bells' Black Note. After selecting, I found out that Choice 1 was a 2013 Founders KBS.

While my team is dreadful, the beer was awesome.

Because that beer is so hop forward, I've never seen it paired with food before. Curious, how did it affect the taste of what you were eating?

Southern Tier's Pumking is really good this year. It doesn't seem as sweet, and doesn't seem to have as much nutmeg in it. It's still about the same, but seems lighter / easier drinking. Then again, maybe I'm just used to it?

It's definitely more balanced this year. I can't get enough of it. I'm grabbing a case in PA this weekend.

It was an asian noodle soup so it actually worked pretty well. The soup had a bit of spice and a lot of ginger/sesame flavor.
