Well, I like a good story. It matters to me at least as much as how well it's done.

I can't wait for the Jaws prequel where we find out Quint took Hooper's dad out on a fishing trip in the 50s and they caught Jaws as a pup but he got off the hook before they could land him and now he's out for payback.

You gotta imagine the Wayne's somehow fucked over the Joker in this movie.

If you use an origin story as a means to explore different themes or tones or emotional spaces -- which is what a good filmmaker should be trying to do, and what this film looks like it's trying to do -- then it shouldn't matter that it's an origin story. The story doesn't have to be the point.

I think this looks good. I'm looking forward to it.

Yeah, seriously.. the intensity of eye-roll story telling can completely ruin a movie for me...

I just like my bad guys to be mysterious and I prefer the Joker to be an unreliable narrator when discussing his history. That said I'm capable of putting away my preferences and allow a filmmaker to take me on their journey. I'm looking forward to it too.

C'mon, bada, this isn't fucking amateur hour: Hooper's dad gets killed by Jaws' mom (which is a nice easter egg to real Jaws fans, since Quint died in the original book), who also sacrifices herself to Quint's harpoon so her baby can get away (setting up the even sweeter revenge when the shark crunches down on Quint), and after it's all over Quint brings Jaws' mom's jaws to Mrs. Hooper to show her that he got the beast, and they share a night of passionate lovemaking to help her get over her grief. The end-credits scene takes place nine months later and is a quick 30-second sting where Mrs. Hooper first has baby Hooper placed in her arms, and she says, "I'll name him Matthew after his...after his...his...[voice drops, look of disappointment crosses her face] father." Quint was Hooper's real father the whole time! Duh duh duh!

Would you say another Spiderman origin story could be of cinematic value at this time?
Absolutely. It’s all about who makes it and what they do with it.
You and I will probably never be friends. Which is unfortunate. But when you post stuff like this I'm reminded how much we really do have in common regardless of specific taste. I hate that I have such a hard time communicating with you sometimes. Because we really do share a lot of perspective on stuff like this.
