So May has written to the EU asking for an extension until June. This means uk will have to take part in EU elections next month.

And this is exactly why the EU don’t want them taking part in those elections
UKIP are already campaigning in order to get their people elected to EU Parliament to sow as much discord as possible

Basically local elections happen all over Europe to put forward MEPs for each area. It’s the same as a regular election to get an MP for your constituency into Parliament.
So the nonsense you see from brexiteers about the Eu being undemocratic is basically bullshit.

Anyone can run for European elections afaik you just need x amount of signatures (I think it’s ten here in Ireland) from people in your area or better yet local council support. Then canvass as in a regular election.
So UKIP who have a solid enough base could put forward candidates from all over Britain (they’re saying they will) and if they’re candidate best the local labour or Tory candidates they go on to be MEPs.

What the European Parliament actually does is kind of a mystery to me tbh but it’s all about farming and fisheries and grants and regulations is all I really hear about it for the most part.
But they control and vote on Eu budgets and foreign policy and all that.

As an aside there was a local by election in uk yesterday only one seat and the mad part is the constituency is around 60,000 but the turn out was pretty abysmal. This vote may or may not be indicative of the EU local elections but turn out for them is always really really low. But now brexit is in play it could change that or maybe cause even more apathy and lower turn out.

Newport West by-election.

Labour-9,308

Con.-7,357

UKiP.-2,023

Neil Hamilton was the UKiP canditate (ex Tory).

Thanks for the info. maybe we'll see UKIP lose support now that people in the UK are waking up to the consequences of Brexit. #optimist

You’d hope so but I’m not sure. Could go either way. Only thing we’ve learned in all this is be prepared for the unexpected and anything can happen

Don't let the media coverage fool you, there are still a lot of idiots in England that support Brexit.

And this prick will be running ‘brexit party’ candidates. He’s lying through his teeth. He currently is an MEP, rarely turns up but claims the massive salary and pension when he eventually leaves. Pure hypocritical cunt

Again, speaking from a position of relative ignorance, but "How the fuck was an organization of over two dozen nations more organized than one single nation?"
You’d have to take a deep dive into Britain and it’s make up for that.
Imperial delusions and hangover. Remember, they ruled most of the world up until relatively recently. But despite that no longer being the case, they still do in their minds culturally.

In this current situation
‘Why aren’t these bloody paddies and Gerry’s rolling over when we tell them to!’ Effectively.
Or look up the lyrics to Rule Britannia for a shorter cliff notes version
Yep, again, British history is not my strength so I just have to learn one step at a time.

Remember that colonial arrogance we talked about? Have a read of this

The EU gathered 20 years of misleading lying fake anti Eu news articles published in UK press. It makes for a scary read and shows why we’re all here. Serious questions need to be asked about this

Wants cross party talks 3 years too late but doesn’t listen or compromise in the talks. Wants to end free movement but doesn’t want to affect people’s lives.

So is this thing gonna happen during The Masters this week? Would be quite intriguing if someone like Rory McIlroy had something to say about it.

EU chief Brexit negotiator Michele Barnier in Dublin today to meet the Taoiseach. That’s him Merkel and Macron all in a week. The message is clear to the Brits.

He said ‘Michel Barnier: "If the UK were to leave the EU without a deal, let me be very, very clear. We would not discuss anything with the UK until there is an agreement for Ireland and Northern Ireland, as well as for citizens’ rights and the financial settlement."

So even if they crash out no deal, these issues will be the very very first things still to be resolved by the uk before any future trade or relationship talks will commence.

I just noticed that this tweet got ratioed into the ground. Impressive, even Trump doesn't get ratioed often because he has so many fanboys and fangirls coming through with the likes.

I don’t know what ratiod means but I believe you.

Did you get a chance to look at this article yet?
This went viral for all the wrong reasons. This is who they are. This is why they are where they are in all of this. Exceptionalism, imperialism and arrogance. It’s quite the read. And riddled start to finish with blatant lies and misconceptions

If the number of retweets and (especially) replies exceeds the number of likes, odds are high it was a bad tweet. Right now she's gotten over 14,000 in replies as opposed to 12,000 likes, with around 4,700 retweets thrown in for good measure.

No, but I'll read it later.

I can already feel myself out of step with how things work on twitter etc.
Thanks for the explainer I appreciate it.

It’s such w bizarre read but not if you’re a rich Tory Briton.
It angered a great many here and in Britain. Then it turned into laughter at how bonkers it is and that element of them are. They’re living in a very different reality. Disconnect is complete.

So an extension til June 1st is granted. If the working agreement isn’t passed by Parliament by then, (let’s be honest it won’t be) the EU can kick the Uk out.
