One thing that interests me is in the event of a United Ireland, would there then be room for Scotland? I think it would be mutually beneficial. Even if the UK has plundered Scotland's oil, there's still a lot of industry including renewable which could benefit both Scotland and Ireland. On the Scottish side, much of the project fear against independence is "too wee, too poor, too stupid, better together" which would obviously be negated if Scotland was still in a tried and tested independent state. And of course, the EU issue. It sounds like a pipe dream, but the Irish Sea is at its narrowest between Northern Ireland and Scotland. I think a lot of Scots would prefer a hard border with England than with Ireland and I wouldn't blame them.

Scottish independence referendum is just a matter of time after brexit. Whichever form it takes. But especially if it’s a hard brexit. London has ignored Scotland for fucking ever.
The EU have also said Scotland would be welcome into the union and new members usually get looked after immediately with the whole infrastructure funding thing.

Scotland has as much to offer as Ireland in an independent setting.


For myself, I want them to get full independence more than a United Ireland.

Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar has said he aspires to a united Ireland based on "cross-community support" in remarks released on Tuesday, the UK Press Association reported.

"In terms of a united Ireland, our constitution is clear on this," he said. "Our constitution aspires to there being a united Ireland. I share that aspiration."

Barely a third of the public in Britain hope Northern Ireland would vote to remain in the UK, new research suggests.

A fifth said they would prefer it if it left and joined the Republic of Ireland following any future referendum on removing the Irish border, pollsters revealed.

One in three (34%) thought Brexit will make it more likely that Northern Ireland will join the Republic over the next decade.

More of those who voted Remain in the referendum than of those who voted Leave think Brexit will make a united Ireland more likely.

The research was published by market research organisation Ipsos MORI for King's College London.


Professor of public opinion and political analysis at King's College London, Roger Mortimore, said: "When Scotland voted on whether to become independent in 2014, there was a clear majority among the public in the rest of the UK that hoped it would choose to stay.

"But many fewer Britons, it seems, would mind if Northern Ireland decided to leave the Union.

"Most have never been there, and most have no clear view on how it will be affected by Brexit."

Conservatives are most likely to hope that Northern Ireland would vote to stay in the UK: 49% of those who would currently vote Conservative say they would prefer Northern Ireland to vote to stay, compared to 34% of Labour supporters and 27% of Liberal Democrats.

Those who voted for Britain to Remain in the EU in the 2016 referendum are more likely (23%) to want Northern Ireland to leave the Union and join the Republic than those who voted Leave (15%).

Three in four adults who live in Great Britain have never visited Northern Ireland, and a further 17% have visited only once or twice. Just 3% have lived or worked there, and 5% have visited many times.

This while story is astounding. This woman discovered the Brits already ignoring the good Friday agreement and the right for anyone in Northern Ireland to identify as Irish or British, they’ve effectively said you’re british first.
This thread is well worth a read. And the DUP once again setting themselves on fire and not even realising it.
