Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII: The Last Jedi
I always feel they fucked up with the deaths of Han and luke. Han specially in the first sequel...and Luke too; we only had one movie with him. The new characters..if they die, example Poe..would anyone care?? Or finn.. they are not even close with the old guys.
BONE FUCKIN´ TOMAHAWK.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII: The Last Jedi
Your nostalgia is showing.
It’s a trilogy about new characters. The old characters are merely a vehicle into that to pass the baton. And they have meaningful presence and contributions.
How do you have Kylo without Han dying?
You’re asking for a totally different trilogy.

I was going to add something similar, but held backAnders wrote:Until the new sequels come along, and they are old and bitter?blueviper wrote:Why can't most of them live, and have a happy ending? This is Star Wars. It should always be hopeful in the end. It is possible to have characters continue to live after a movie ends. Then you can use your imagination that they lived happy prosperous lives.Anders wrote:I think Rey, Finn and Poe will survive. Kylo will die. No doubt about it. So for me the question is whether or not Leia, Lando, Chewie, the Falcon and even the droids, will make it. It would be different if they were planning episode X. However, every other planned movie or series is a prequel.![]()
It adds a little more gravitas when someone dies. It would be strange for me if there isn't any death in the last movie.

I guess Harrison Ford only wanted to make one movie. So his death wasn't a surprise. A shame though there was never a scene with Luke and Han.
I don't mind that there is some death in the movies, but I certainly didn't think Luke's death was the perfect end to TLJ.

There's a big contingent of younger fans who are super invested in the new characters

Maybe what we need is a little more nostalgia in the world and Star Wars, not less.

But then, isn’t is usually the same people that celebrate the death of the old (Luke/Han), with not wanting Chewie or the Falcon to go as well.

And C3PO is like, "you speak?"
And Chewie is like "yeah, I've been practicing for a while."

How would you guys feel if the Falcon crashed/exploded with Leia, Lando and Chewie on board?

Devastated. Genuinely.
I think the falcon at least is safe. It’s the main feature ride at their new theme park which is set in canon around events of TLJ or this new one.
Someone said black spire the ‘town’ the theme park is set in, is in the film.

That's part of the point. Peple were devastated that Han died, devastated that Luke died. It would be a cop out to not have any of that in IX.

I don't see it as a cop out at all. That doesn't actually make a lot of sense to me. But I did hear some folks speculating that there may be a time jump within the movie. It hasn't happened in SW before but the way everyone kept dodging the question at the Celebration panel made me wonder if we won't see it for the first time.Anders wrote:That's part of the point. The speculation goes that Leia only appears in the beginning of the film, then there's a time jump, in which she passes, and we go from there. I don't know that I like that but it's an interesting idea.

That could be something interesting.

I think I would like that. But I hope it's not too wide a gap.

Totally. I'm of two minds on the idea, for sure, but I like the idea of doing different things structurally and narratively that we haven't seen before. Like the "Force-back" and the "Flashbacks" in the previous two films.dimejinky99 wrote:durdencommatyler wrote:I don't see it as a cop out at all. That doesn't actually make a lot of sense to me. I remember hearing speculation/talk when the first one came out that they'd be doing one for all three OT movies. Glad to see it looks like that's really going to happen! Super exciting.
