I'm sure it will be similar to playing a PS4 or Xbox One title on a PS4 Pro or Xbox One X (still such a shitty name). The gameplay will be upgraded without the user experiencing any obstacles.tree_ wrote:Yeah so then I can play games like Sekiro and RDR2 and have a smoother experience.. I like it

It's pretty crazy that consoles are taking this long to switch to SSDs.

This all sounds like pretty good news. If the backwards compatibility is for both digital and physical games, I will definitely consider selling my PS4 Pro early in the PS5's lifespan to help offset the cost of a new system.Monkey_Driven wrote:First PS5 details: https://www.wired.com/story/exclusive-s ... n-console/
-Backwards compatibility with PS4 confirmed!
-SSD for faster loading times
-Capable of 8k output
-Physical media supported
-8 core processor
-ray tracing (whatever the hell that is)
-PS4/PS5 simultaneous releases (looking at you Death Stranding)

What was the cost of a 500 gb SSD in 2013? To make that work and still fall in the 399.99 price point?run2death wrote:It's pretty crazy that consoles are taking this long to switch to SSDs.

The One X came out in like late 2017, right? It has a 5,400 RPM drive!Monkey_Driven wrote:What was the cost of a 500 gb SSD in 2013? To make that work and still fall in the 399.99 price point?run2death wrote:It's pretty crazy that consoles are taking this long to switch to SSDs.
SanDisk, ADATA and others were already making $125 to $150 1TB SSDs for consumers at that point.
WD was making a 1TB hybrid drive for like $79.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't know what ray tracing is.

Re: Next-Gen Consoles (Coming 2020-ish)
Damn how did I miss this today, thanks for posting! the SSD is GREAT news as is the compatibility and 8K output. I seriously hope they can get us more than 1TB of space though. With the way games sizes are increasing, I don't think they have any choice up to start making 2-3TB standard, unless they start pushing harder on the externalsMonkey_Driven wrote:First PS5 details: https://www.wired.com/story/exclusive-s ... n-console/

Rumor: PS5 to cost $499 at launch.
People will complain and it will still sell out.

Sounds about right. It won't surprise me if games cost 65 or 70 bucks a pop either in the new generation.CopperTom wrote:Rumor: PS5 to cost $499 at launch.
