I think he's been in this world where he's got the PJ fans, and with ITW it was a good friend sort of coaxing him w/ lots of encouragement. Maybe Out of the Furnace was a step outside and then he gets a voice of no confidence? Certainly could be one of many reasons .....

Out of the Furnace happened in 2013. That's quite a long time for that to be the reason.

He played Bradley Cooper a song and Cooper was like "uhhhh...cool" and then they went with something else.

I vaguely remember Cooper talking about it in an interview. He said that he talked to Eddie about how to approach the role and when Eddie got overly enthusiastic and showed Cooper a new song he got politely rejected.

Cooper wasn't interested in his songs. That article probably redacted by Cooper's publicist. I distinctly remember him saying that it felt weird to not jump on the opportunity to involve Eddie but knew what the movie needed.

maybe he should go rent an apartment in evanston for a few months and get back to his roots
