I've been thinking about going on a later day REM revisit; Up through Collapse.

Im obsessed with Monster.

What an album, the guitars, Stipe, the production....so loose, to release an album like that in the moment they did it...its just astonishing.

Yeah, Up is pretty great. So many good songs, but "Why Not Smile" might be my favorite.

I have not listened to Reveal in a long time, I think I'll do that now actually.

I can't remember if it was Reveal or Around the Sun that was nowhere near as good as I remembered it being

That is part of the reason I want to give the later day albums another listen. Outside of Up, I remember not loving any of them and I get mixed on what songs are on what album. I remember liking Accelerate after Up, but I don't know if that is accurate anymore.

"The Great Beyond" should've been on Up. It's better than any other song on there.

Reveal has The Lifting, I've Been High, Imitation of Life, and I'll Take The Rain.

Four very strong songs. Unfortunately, they're surrounded by utter mediocrity so the album suffers overall.

I have a love/hate with Up. I'm not massive on the overall 'sound'. I love Lotus, Hope, Sad Professor, and Why Not Smile :hooray:
