I just realized I don't have Around The Sun. I thought I had all their studio albums, but I thought wrong. That is going to put a kink in my listening to Up through Collapse plans.
My progress has been real shitty so far... skipped Up bc I know that one the best, and have only listened to half of Reveal so far.

Both Accelerate and Collapse are so good. I agree they might be better in my mind that they actually are but it was such a joy to revisit them earlier this year.

So far, I'm not really feeling Reveal. It's ok, but a little dull. I'm listening while working, so it's definitely possibly that I'm not paying enough attention.

i like "she just wants to be", "disappear", "imitation of life", and "i'll take the rain", but not sure about the rest. i think i also liked "summer turns to high". the album is ok, just not really loving it.

Listened to it three times today. It can’t match Reveal for me, but I do love listening to R.E.M.

we did one a few years ago, snake style draft tournament. it’s what introduced me to the later stuff, and really most of their catalog. i made playlists of everyone’s picks. if anyone is interested I can see if I can find it / post it.VinylGuy wrote:yeah, im in.Anders wrote:I read this as Stip. Reveal is pretty underwhelming, with the best song been I’ve been high
Stripes timbre on this version is unparralelled,

Wish they would just hurry up and repress monster and hi-fi on wax

Been listening to R.E.M. while driving a lot lately and my wife keeps getting annoyed by how nonsensical Stipe’s lyrics often are, lol

I think, honestly, that's a big part of why it took me so long to really get into REM. For a long time, growing up, lyrics were super important to me and his were just abstract for me. I've outgrown that a bit and my stance has changed a lot. Now I really love his lyrics.

The other day she exasperatedly blurted out, "What the hell is he talking about?!"

Re: How The West Was Won And Where It Got Us: An REM Thread
I was listening to Out of Time a few days back and thinking that it's quite an odd record to be such a massive hit and breakout for the band. Especially the opening; Radio Song -> Losing My Religion -> Low -> Near Wild Heaven is such a crazy start to an album.
But the topsy-turviness of side A always makes me forget how strong the record ends...

Texarkana
Country Feedback
Me In Honey
That's a hell of a run of great songs.
