Really? I like john. Him and ken are literally the only two I can bear to listen to from Collider

He's a blowhard. There is no breadth or depth to his criticism. He's defensive. He's a hypocrite and an opportunist. Worst of all, he's SUPER sexist. His ideas of masculinity and femininity are laughable when they aren't downright offensive. You hear it in this very podcast episode you linked to. He grosses me out and infuriates me.

That conversation pissed me off as a whole. I can’t stand putting modern politics or agendas on something this old. It looks like showboating for the sake of it. Complaining about it now achieves absolutely nothing.
I don’t listen to enough of stuff he’s on to form the same or opposite opinion but I’ll take your word for it.

If you like the guy, I'm not trying to turn you. I've just never found much value in what he has to say. He's way too biased and prone to reductionist bullshit. He often marginalizes women, especially at the expense of what he thinks manhood is.

Obviously, that's a big issue with me. But I don't expect everyone to feel the same way. In a world where there are a billion commentators and critics, I just don't have time to deal with people like that. There are so many better and more interesting commentators.

BUT... having said all of that... I did really like the majority of the episode. There were a lot of interesting things that I learned and I like hearing people talk about structure and craft. So there's a lot to like in the ep.

Ah I know you weren’t. As you know I avoid almost everything /everyone out of Collider.
Blow hards is a pretty perfect summation of the whole lot of them.
But yeah there was ton of fun stuff in this episode. I really like this pod generally.

I'll definitely give a few more eps a listen. Thanks for sharing the pod!

The only changes in any of the OT movies I think improved upon the original version:

-Changing Han’s line, “It’s all right, trust me,” to, “It’s all right, I can see a lot better.”

-Replacing “Yub-Nub” with that wonderful new score.

Well you’re wrong.

Empire benefited most and best of the OT from the changes.
Look at the upgraded cloud city sequence if you doubt that.
Which you undoubtedly do.

Are you talking about picture quality or the CGI revisions?

And I don’t care. Nobody likes the special editions. My point was really only empire got any benefit at all. Zero embarrassing additions like dumb pop songs or crap cgi jabbas installed.

Yet I would argue additions like the Wampa and Ian McDiarmid ruined some of the series’ most menacing and unsettling sequences.

Luke’s scream is also really embarrassing.

There’s a weird one for you.

Would you want 4K unaltered original cut no alterations no additions nothing.
Just the prints that were shown in 77?

You’d see how threadbare the whole thing was on every level.

Does anyone want that?

Well, I want them taken from the OCN, not prints, but, of course, yes. Those were the movies I fell in love with.

They also already exist in the form of projects 4K77, 4K80, and 4K83. Taken from prints, not the OCN, unfortunately, but they exist. That’s what EVERYONE wants. Who wouldn’t?
