Thats pretty much what they did with every classic character´s death in this new sequels.

I don't think the characters have had time to celebrate the deaths of other characters, yet. This next movie will go full on fan service, though, Mark Hamill my words.

There seems to be a lot riding on this movie in terms of my continued support and interest in Star Wars. Killing Chewbacca would certainly be a step in the wrong direction.
