Chris_H_2 wrote:i think people are entitled to come in an express their opinions of the show based on the bar that the show itself set, regardless of whether others don't agree with those opinions. far worse for me is when people have posted thoughtful sentiments, only to have others simply respond with a :shake: , which is not only dismissive, but completely sanctimonious (which to me is even worse than the original criticism). i'm certain it's because they don't agree with the opinion or they thought the poster didn't, in their mind, balance that opinion with something that they find positive based on their idea what is good about the show. that's not really fair, and doesn't lead to healthy discourse. neither is the thought that if a person is posting something critical, he or she doesn't still enjoy the show.

most of (read "most," not all of) the criticisms expressed in this thread are to a degree fair. and those that aren't fair are at least backed up by some logic, even if at the end i still don't agree with it. the past couple of seasons have been, by most people's accounts, disappointing relative to the quality of the previous seasons. as i posted, i think the story itself has suffered because of the abbreviated time the showrunners had to work with (which, by all accounts, was their own doing). this has created a snowball effect because it literally touches every detail of the show because everything is so interconnected.

also realize that it may seem like there is more criticism, and that's simply because there are more people watching the show now compared to even 2-3 years ago. with more people we're going to have more opinions -- some with which we agree, and others with which we don't.

I really enjoyed the books and the show but I've never had any faith that all the various threads would come together into a satisfying conclusion nor do I have any feelings as to how things should end. There are certain characters I'd rather not see die but outside of that I kinda feel like they can end it however they want. Same thing with Star Wars and Star Trek and superhero movies whatever...the only thing I really get precious about is Tolkien.

Well said both joey and Chris.

I didn't mind the latest episode. The only real issue I had with it was Cersei holding back from wiping them out as they stood there before her. At this point, why wouldn't she? And that dragon seemed much closer to the crossbows in that scene than in the scene where the other one got shot. But I did love all the character positioning in this episode. Got my mind turning about who is going to backstab who, what is Jaime thinking, what is Euron's play now that he knows the baby isn't his, etc.

given how much that has transpired since we first found out that cersei was pregnant, shouldn't she been showing by now? if the show is to be believed and time elapses with the events of the show, she probably should've already had the kid by now.

I welcome all opinions. If I didn't, I certainly wouldn't have a billion posts on this goddamn message board. And, for me, at least, it isn't just about Game of Thrones. It's a larger issue with internet culture in general. What dime's getting at manifests itself all over the internet across all forms of pop culture.

Sometimes, I feel worn down by all of it. And I admit that my fatigue at all of it makes me react rather respond here. Sometimes the level of hate isn't as extreme as it feels to me in the moment. Like I said, it's projecting. It's feeling all of it from all angels about all the things I like and craving to have a different discussion.

That's totally on me. And I am aware of it. I try to resist the impulse to fight about it or lash out or dismiss but I know I've been guilty of it from time to time.

My apologies to those I've bothered or who have felt dismissed and wrongfully attacked by anything I've posted.

The internet is exhausting, I agree.

This is what all you guys get for reading the books. Idiots.

I think there's a logical argument to be made that Cersei WANTS Dany to attack King's Landing and decimate it. It helps her in the minds of the people if Dany is seen as The Mad King reborn. So, while I agree that it was a weird move not to act more, I do think it makes some sense.

I don’t think she could have because of distance, and I think she wanted them to attack before the north and Dirne arrived.

there's no way everything that's transpired could have happened in a couple of months. we have them heading north of the wall to capture a wight, people going to king's landing for the dragon pit meeting and then leaving, euron leaving and then finding and returning with the golden company, everyone going back up to winterfell to prepare for the battle of winterfell, the battle and aftermath of winterfell, all of the planning for king's landing, and then dany marching back to down to king's landing. westeros is a pretty big continent.

and lest people think i'm nit picking, these are all things that each would have previously elapsed over an entire season, not collectively over 5 episodes.

Some of that could have happened before she got pregnant. How much time for Jamie to travel north, join the force, fight the Night King, party and kiss, and then leave for the south, and long enough for Dany and her ships to get south as well.

Yeah, I do think there's a way around some of this stuff in that we might not being seeing all events in consecutive or chronological order. Some of this stuff could be happening at the same time, we just obviously can't be see it that way. Some scene must follow another.

But even given that leniency, I think Chris as a fair point about the timeline. This stuff doesn't particularly bother me but I totally see why others are bothered by it. It's more than fair to point out and take issue with.

It takes about a month to travel from winterfell to King’s landing by way of the kingsroad
