Re: Metal (\M/ METAL \M/)
Got any examples? I think I'd disagree. I really like the music but I can't deal with the growling and screaming vocals. I also don't really like the high-pitched wailing of the bands that do "sing" (think anything from the 1980s) but it is better than nothing, I guess.mf wrote:because extreme metal with clean vocals is terriblej's brain wrote:This sums up the entire genre of music for me. everybody says the same thing when they first start listening to metal. just find something you like and it will grow on you until one day you realize that you actually prefer the growling.j's brain wrote:Got any examples? there are lots of bands that mix in clean vocals with the growls that might be a good starting point but i can't really think of any extreme bands that do solely clean vocals. i'm sure someone out there knows of some but i've yet to hear anything that appeals to me -- it's usually the 80's hair metal and power metal type stuff. there are a lot of sludge/doom/stoner/progressive type bands that don't overdo the screams. what are the bands you do like but take issue with the vocals? maybe i could recommend something.

Re: Metal (\M/ METAL \M/)
Back in March my band and I rented some equipment and spent a day recording a bunch of our tunes. Then i spent a month mixing that amateur mess. Then we all sort of forgot about it. And then a couple days ago I finally put it on bandcamp. We recorded live with just a couple overdubs on the guitars for depth so what you hear on tape is us in our sloppy, noisy prime.
It's 33 minutes of instrumental sludge/doom, with a few hints of post metal sprinkled in. There is talk of adding some vocals at some point. Give it a listen, or download it cause hey -- it's free.

I've listened MF's bands songs and while I think a few should stay instrumental the ones that have tons of space for vocals I hear more Sabbath/Down/Sword/Mastadon type vocals. It's his music so he can growl and scream all he or his bandmates want but I think those tunes could easily appeal to both sides of the fence. It's a crossover album that will unite all the metal factions and take over the world.

Re: Metal (\M/ METAL \M/)
Yeah I'm not really sure how to tackle the vocals. Nobody in the band is a singer so I'd probably just go at it with a minimalist approach. The songs that do get vocals would probably end up with just a few lines here and there. Probably something more like Isis, depends on what I can manage. I haven't sang in a band since high school when we did nirvana and deftones covers so I have no idea what I'm capable of...probably not much hahabada wrote:Heathen wrote:BurtReynolds wrote:i like it except for the vocals.Clevermf wrote:It's 33 minutes of instrumental sludge/doom

Re: Metal (\M/ METAL \M/)
Any of you guys ever listen to Author & Punisher? It's this one man Drone/Electronic/Industrial/Doom whatever band where the guy makes all of his own "instruments", or triggers, or whatever you want to call them - watch the video below to see what i mean. I think he's touring with Phil Anselmo right now. It's really interesting stuff. Not something I could listen to every day but it has it's moments of downright awesomeness.

Am I the only one posting in here? Feels like it.
Anybody listening to the new Windhand? Full album is streaming in the link. They caught my attention a few months back when i heard a song they did for a split on some comp (Relapse maybe? i don't remember) and i thought they were the first interesting doom band i'd heard in a long time. That genre has seriously started to bore the shit out of me. Every new band has the same tired riffs and vocals i can't even tell them apart. But Windhand seems to be a step above the rest. Loud and fuzzed out as fuck and with reverb soaked clean vocals. Nice to hear a stoner doom band breathe some life back into a genre i'd more or less given up on. Definitely check it out if you haven't yet.

I haven't been in a metal mood lately, lots of stuff I've been meaning to check out though, including this Windhand album. Shitty weather is already upon us so it won't be long until I feel like putting on some black or doom metal againmf wrote:Am I the only one posting in here? Feels like it.
