Plenty of possible "X kills Dany" scenarios (don't discount the Onion Knight), but, uh, I really haven't heard anyone start to discuss what the hell you do with Drogon at that point. Someone up above (ruddo?) made the nuclear war comparison, and I think that was all over the episode, and you don't just get to put that genie back in the bottle.

I would really not be surprised if it's Grey Worm beheading Jon as the final catalyst for Arya to kill Dany. The parallel to Ned's death would be tasty.

I've heard Dany's argument--that the children and descendents of those living under tyranny now will come to thank her for choosing to unleash slaughter on the general population--dozens of times in my life to defend the use of nuclear weapons, particularly within my own family.

She said she would burn cities to the ground for the Iron Throne in Season 2. I can maybe throw together some more coherent thoughts on this later, but as someone who has enjoyed last season and this one a bit more than the general watchership, I've found myself defending the show while also conceding some of the missteps along the way. I am on the record 1000 times over that the show has some serious flaws, but I feel like few of them were on display last night--it was a brutal, unappealing episode of TV, but true to the series' heart, and it's set up an unpredictable finale that I cannot wait to watch.

Interesting. Obviously I love hearing your thoughts. And respect the hell of your opinion. You and I have been on so much similar footing with our experiences of the show. It's weird to feel literally the opposite.

Maybe I’m out of bounds since I’m very behind on the books, but after last night, I think I can understand and appreciate why GRRM published that Targaryen book instead of TWOW last year. I haven’t read Fire & Blood, but I’d have to guess that getting more and more Targaryen lore out there really helps color what Danaerys just did to King’s Landing. The Red Keep is like Harrenhall now.

That was a lot more brutal than I had predicted. But I’ve seen Dany as a villain since reading the books in 2008. Glad we didn’t get a happy ending with her, but now I think they need to kill her in the last episode. She is the one that has done the most vile acts in the show ever now.

I see it more as "I've allowed you to exploit my goodness for too long and so human shields will no longer protect you from justice", which is a pretty brave choice for a plot point given today's political climate wrt Gaza.

Eh. I dont know. This sums up my thoughts:

So much happens in just 80 minutes of television. Jaime and Euron fight to the death, and Jaime wins . . . but then Jaime and Cersei die with no fanfare and no meaning. It's all so pointless. And it makes what came before pointless, too. Why did Jaime knight Brienne? Why did he sleep with her? Why did she weep at his departure? What is the point of these relationships if they simply trail off into rubble? Rubble and fire. This could have been the culmination of an entire season of conflict and betrayal and build-up.

I want to love this episode so badly. It was, truly, great television. The music, the cinematography, the acting . . . all brilliant. But a rushed story is a rushed story.

I loved Arya and Cleggans last scene together.
It’s so good. He’s not entirely a cunt. He does care. Somewhere in there.

That’s a pivotal moment for her too. Back to protecting life over worshiping death.

The Jaime ending was poetic and fitting for his overall arc but it made every scene with Brienne after the knighting even more confusing and pointless.
