For the same reason you would kill people trying to kill people I assume.

Yeah it’s the protecting the innocent delusion. But the fraction of pro-lifers who think that is so tiny and violence so rare it’s not even a top 5 for hating on them.

Not to be outdone, my state's illustrious state senate passed an anti-abortion bill of their own in the middle of the night.

In "this is the coolest shit" news, The Voynich Manuscript has been translated.

EDIT: There's some shit going down in the Voynich world
Gerard Cheshire[edit]

In 2019 Romance Studies published Cheshire's paper "The Language and Writing System of MS408 (Voynich)".[99] Cheshire, a biology research assistant at the University of Bristol, claims to have deciphered the manuscript in two weeks using a combination of "lateral thinking and ingenuity."[100][101] Cheshire claims that the manuscript is "a compendium of information on herbal remedies, therapeutic bathing and astrological readings” with a focus on female physical and mental health, reproduction and parenting and that the manuscript is the only known text written in proto-Romance.[102] He said: "The manuscript was compiled by Dominican nuns as a source of reference for Maria of Castile, Queen of Aragon."[103] However, experts in medieval documents have disputed this interpretation[104] with the executive editor of Medieval Academy of America Lisa Fagin Davis denouncing the paper as "just more aspirational, circular, self-fulfilling nonsense".[102] Approached for comment by Ars Technica[105], Davis gave this explanation:

As with most would-be Voynich interpreters, the logic of this proposal is circular and aspirational: he starts with a theory about what a particular series of glyphs might mean, usually because of the word's proximity to an image that he believes he can interpret. He then investigates any number of medieval Romance-language dictionaries until he finds a word that seems to suit his theory. Then he argues that because he has found a Romance-language word that fits his hypothesis, his hypothesis must be right. His "translations" from what is essentially gibberish, an amalgam of multiple languages, are themselves aspirational rather than being actual translations.

A Danish parliamentary candidate is pioneering a radical new campaign strategy: advertising on PornHub. “You need to get out everywhere, so we thought it could be amusing with an ad on Pornhub,” Joachim B. Olsen, of the Liberal Alliance, said, according to Politico. “Half the internet is porn and you need to be where the voters are—including a porn site.” His campaign slogan is similarly tawdry: “Når du er færdig med at gokke, så stem på Jokke”—aka, “when you finish wanking, vote for Jokke.” “I know that some people will be aghast,” he said. “You can’t say anything today without some people getting upset. I don’t take it very seriously. Those who know me as a politician know that I am serious, but I have a sense of humor and think this is a good laugh.” Olsen, who previously won a silver medal in shot put at the 2004 Olympics, said he didn’t discuss his plans with his party before running the ad—but he’s hoping it will help him win big in the nation’s June 5th general election.

I saw it said that republicans are going full smash and grab with hardcore legislation before the election.
Is this a sign that they don’t think trump will win or a signal that there’s worse to come if he gets a second term?

It's interesting to me that Abortion is such a hot button issue now for conservatives. They're making these laws while they can because they've talked this nonsense up forever and the supreme court is advantageous to them they think now. Obviously if you think deleting a group of cells is murder then you can't make exceptions. The thing is, it's got very very little to do with abortion. It's about control and that's fairly obvious. If "life" is so sacred, we would be out banning the death penalty and keeping guns out of the hands of lunatics. We're not doing that at all. This entire nonsense is about fighting a supreme court precedent from 1973. These are the same people that thought milk was going to curdle and the world was going to hell because of same sex marriage and women serving in positions of authority.

The somewhat obvious retort would be for the House of Reps to get off their collective butts and start passing laws protecting medical procedures and supersede a lot of the nonsense going on in the states. (yes I live in Georgia, I tried, sorry)

If it's about "LIFE" where's the rise in taxes and the new found administrations that are being created to take on this influx of babies and young families? Where's the uptick in state and federal money to healthcare and mental health services, to take on this burden? If "life" is so important, why not take all the refugee babies and people that want to come into this country. It's not about life, it was never about life.

If you think Abortion is murder, I can understand your position, most of the rest of the world disagrees with you but I get where you're coming from. The people writing and supporting these laws aren't supporting life. They're dictating control, which frankly is the problem most people have with fundamentalism in general.

If you want that kind of life, frankly go buy a ranch in Utah, set up a fence and forget the rest of the world exists.

I don't get the hatred for women and also allowing women into positions of power, like the governor who signed that bill. Is it the "enemy of my enemy is my friend" thing?

Conservative Christians forcing women to give birth to children that they will then refuse to feed, clothe and treat medically. It's the American way.

It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

But it is 100% about control. Not any moral bullshit.

Growing up in a conservative house, conservative church, conservative city.....it's always been THE hot button issue. Since 1973, it's THE issue my parents vote on.

i defer to women who go through pregnancy on when its too late to get an abortion. this whole we detect a heartbeat therefor it has rights etc is silly to me. at that point perform a c section and tell me how long that heartbeat lasts without the aid of machines to keep it alive

This whole discussion is worthy of a thread and should be merged with the Abortion thread. It makes me proud to see the men of RM are just as angry about this as I am.

I'm not one to usually say something like this, and I have nothing to back this up, but I suspect this is a bit of a dog whistle issue with white southerners.
